SHEFFIELD MAY PIP is nearly here...

come on down to endcliffe park this saturday (20th may) from 3:30pm for a bouncy day of sun spinning and salmon...

well i cant promise the salmon, but after last month's hugely successful pip i can priomise an excellent day out for all with lots of spinning, fire, wushhu frisbee, acrobatics and perhaps even a bbq if the weather stays good enough..

so come on down, bring yourselves, your spinnables, your picnicy snacks and anything else you may need to have fun in the sun on saturday and i'll see you down in the park! :-)

When I've settled in and met some peeps I'll have some space for a Poi Outside My Flat as there's a decent sized grassy area in my building's garden. Secluded though, so not a good place for attention seekers ubblol

Hello everyone, hope you've all been well and managed to survive flooding, horrible weather and the general lack of a british-summertime this year..

It makes me extremely happy to announce that finally the weather is good enough again to have a poi in the park!!! :-)

so with that in mind we will be down in ENDCLIFFE PARK, off the HUNTERS BAR/ECCY ROAD ROUNDABOUT tomorrow from 2PMish (dont worry if you're there to the second and we're not, it is a customary thing to be fashionably late, we will get there i promise..).

the plan is to bring a few disposable BBQs down so if people wanna bring some food down to contribute to what i've already got that'd be wicked. we can all sit in the sun, spin, munch, drink and then when it gets darker spin some fire..

oh and if anyone has any spare paraffin, i'm having to walk down tomorrow so i'll only be able to bring what my arms can carry.. :-S

see you all in the park tomorrow for a sunny day of fun! :-)

peace n pineapples

Si

ps. dont worry if you can't make it tomorrow, i appreciate this is quite short notice but now the weather's good again we'll be having at least 2 PIPs a month so there'll be plenty of other opportunities..

Hey everyone, i thought i'd get the ball rolling on ideas for PIP's birthday this year.

Despite the birthday traditionally being mid november i thought this year i'd work a bit of magic, go back in time and perform an emergency c section to take pip out a month or so early... That way we could have the birthday in mid october, when all the students have just got back and aren't too stressed, and hopefully the weather wont be quite as bad..

Provisional dates are the 13th, 20th or 27th of September, so what i'd like is for all of you to give me your opinion on which of these dates you feel would be best.. Im hoping to confirm in the next few weeks whether or not we will have the hall again for people to crash in overnight as we have done in previous years.

As always PIiP itself will be a free event to attend, with a small charge per person for styaing over in the hall so i can cover the costs of hiring it out. Hopefully this year i will also have a few hoodies and t-shirts designed and ready for sale should anyone wish to purchase one (advanced orders for these would benefit as then i can gauge how many to have made..)

well get typing folks, let's hear your say.

End of Sept doesn't really work for me. Was October a possibility Si or did you mean to type September?

okies, that would make much more sense! well 13th is good for me biggrin i've got lots of uni open days to go to nearer the end of october, don't think any of them will be on a weekend, but it's the travelling from place to place in such a small amount of time that'll be awkward.

Either of the other dates are fine but I think I should be Nottingham way w/b 8/10 so 13th would mean less travelling smile

still narrowing it down chap.. it's between the 20th and 27th now..

could those who are coming let me know asap which best suits them and if they'll be wanting to crash in the hall over-night? also if they will be coming in a group, rough numbers would be hugely appreciated.

depending on which date and how many peeps come, the charge for sleeping in the hall could be anything from 3 - 5 pounds, but i'll put a max on it at £5...

also if anyone is up for doing a bit of a fire or led performance, it doesnt have to be pro, much more of a renegade thing, please let me know, either on the thread or via p.m. if you don't wanna tell everyone.

Hi everyone, Si here with an official Poi in the Park Sheffield Birthday announcement..

I can now confirm that our Birthday PiP will be taking place on Saturday, October 20th, from 3pm onwards.

The location is as follows: Endcliffe Park, off the Hunters Bar/Eccleshall Road Roundabout, Sheffield.

For those of you using sat nav to find your way, the postcode is: S11 7AB.

As in previous years the day is going to be a whole lot of fun, with lots of crazy things going on during both the day and night. We intend to have a few workshops running during the day (anyone wanting to run one or suggest what they'd like to learn please get in touch in the weeks to come), along with games and other activities, so whether your coming down to teach, learn, play or just be a monkey in a field for a day it should be fun for everyone!! :-)

For those of you who haven't been to a SheffPiP Birthday before, we like to keep everything very relaxed and groovy (as a certain crazy orange fruit repeatedly says...), which means there will be people from all walks of life, with loads of different props and differing skill levels; from those who perform for a living, to those who have quite literally never picked up poi, juggling balls etc.. before.

In the evening we will be having a renegade based fire show, where we encourage anyone who is comfortable and sensible with fire to get up and show us what they love doing best.

We will save the pros. till the very end because the show should be more about people who love fire than those who live fire, and we want you all to feel totally relaxed about spinning in front of us, regardless of skill level (again as long as you are sensible and safe with fire).

NB. Poi in the Park Sheffield is not liable for any personal injuries sustained while performing with fire. All individuals perform under their own consent. First Aid equipment will be provided should any accidents occur, and fire marshalls will make themselves aware to you before anyone lights up.

When the fire dies down we have also got St. Andrew's Church Hall for the night as we have had in recent years. This will provide a venue for more spinning, drinking, bouncing around and general madness for the remainder of the night. The hall comfortably sleeps over 50 people, and is fully equipped with kitchen and toilet facilities, so expect a continuing supply of tea, cakes and biccies...!

The large room will be allocated as the sleeping room, and past 2am music will have to be kept to a minimum to let those who wish to, sleep. However the small room will be an all-night UV room for those of you who aren't planning on sleeping.. ;-)

Although SheffPiP is a totally free event to attend, I do have to cover the base cost of hiring the hall for the night, and as such all those who wish to stay over will be asked to donate a modest £4 towards their stay. However, depending on how many people stay over, if i end up breaking even this year any money left over will be used to buy some yummy breakfast treats for all those in the hall... :-)

Those wishing to stay for the night, can you please email me over the next few weeks so i can guage numbers, and include any others you know of who may also wish to sleep over. The email address to use for this, and all enquiries is:

sheffpip@googlemail.com

That's about it for now. I'll post up a contact number for people to use closer to the day, but in the meantime i'll list below a summary of important information..

When: Saturday 20th October 2007, 3pm till 9am Sunday.
Where (Daytime): Endcliffe Park, Eccleshall Road. S11 7AB
Where (Night): St. Andrew's Church Hall, Hanover Way. S3 7RQ
Who: Absolutely anyone and everyone.
Price: Free for all during the day. £4 to sleep in the hall.
Contact: sheffpip@googlemail.com or reply to this thread.

So, get booking those days off in your diaries and get those train/coach tickets sorted cos this is one day you're not gonna want to miss out on! :-)

Stay tuned for more updates and keep those suggestions coming for activities and workshops.

Also, anyone wanting to do a non-renegade performance please email me with details of your routine, any music you may want playing etc..

Peace n Pineapples

Hello everyone! :-)

Now you might not think it to look at the weather, but it's nearly easter time, and at PiP that can only mean one thing.. we've got a park, we've got fun people who love chocolate, let's get Poi in the Park back rolling again and have an easter egg hunt at the same time!!...

The plan is this:

PiP will be happening this Saturday, March 22nd in the usual place, by the 'frog on the log' in endcliffe park.

Meet up there at 3pm sharp to commence the hunt. I will be going down earlier in the day to hide some eggs for everyone, but you're gonna want to get there as close to 3pm as possible because i'm sure the odd egg or two will get discovered by the kids playing in the park...

Once we've had our little easter egg hunt, it'll be PiP business as usual, with spinning, frolicking and general fun in the (touch wood) sun..! Then when it gets dark we'll break out the fire and then it'll be off to the porter cottage or springvale for drinkies to finish off..

Hope to see you all down there..

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick message to say that we will be having a Poi in the Park this Saturday (May 24th) from 3pm down in Endcliffe park as usual.

Now that the weather is looking better I’m hoping to have PiP every couple of weeks, rather than just once a month, so that we can take advantage of the sunshine and get outside and spin more..! I’ll be putting some plans up for future PiPs, including dates and locations on the facebook group, so watch out for further info there and mentioned at Teapots.

Also, over Summer i will be looking for a few people to help me out in organising the PiP birthday this year, as i am trying to liase with the council and other local circus organisations to make it a full-on, one-day arts festival. If this is something you would be interested in helping out with in any way, no matter how small the contribution, please contact me for further details (sheffpip@googlemail.com), or come speak to me at PiP or Teapots..

See you all in the park on Saturday.

It's time for another poi in the park as I'm currently back in Sheffield and free for the weekend. Weather seems to be holding so i reckon we should all get out to the park and spin some fire and drink rum..! :-)

This poi in the park is however going to be a very special one.. This poi in the park will bare witness to Si cutting off his dreadlocks after 5 years of being mistaken for a hippy! well actually it wont be me cutting them off, i'll be sitting down crying and drowning my tears in rum; for the cutting off i invite you all to turn up and take part and each cut off a dread.. :-)

So, be in endcliffe park from 2pm for this momumentous occasion, and be the first people to laugh at how silly i'm gonna look without hair... oh and if anyone has a suitably silly hat for me to wear for a while till my hair comes back, feel free to bring it along.. :-)

Hey everyone, it's getting close to that time of year again: Sheffield's PitP Birthday is nearly upon us and i need a bit of feedback from the wider community about dates and numbers for booking overnight accommodation..

Initially we were planning to have PitP Birthday on Saturday October 18th, HOWEVER, it appears this is the same weekend as Durham Juggling Convention..

Now, how many people that would want to come up to Sheffield will be in Durham that weekend? If there are lots of people who would want to come up, but are in Durham instead, I will move it back to the 25th of October instead so everyone can come to both.. :-)

All who are interested please let me know ASAP as i need to confirm dates with some of the acts who will be performing during the day... This year we are looking to have a variety act show during the day and a fire show in the evening, thanks to assistance from Swamp Circus.

Please either reply to this thread or email me on:

sheffpip@googlemail.com

Tell me which date would be preferable for you, along with the number of people coming up if you would be wanting to crash in the hall for the night..

Ideally I want to confirm the date this weekend so get your info in quick please.

Hello everyone out there, it's once again time for 'Poi in the Park: Sheffield' to have it's birthday bash and we want all of YOU to be there with us to enjoy the day..!

DATE NOW CONFIRMED: October 18th in Endcliffe Park, off the Hunters Bar Roundabout & Eccleshall Road in Sheffield; We will be holding the 9th PitP:Sheffield Birthday Bash from 12pm/midday.

This year's birthday will be a special one, as it will be my last event as official organiser after 4 very enjoyable years of running things..

It will also be a special day as we aim to make PitP:s Birthday this year a taster of what is to come in 2009, where we hope to turn the event into an official, funded 'one-day festival' similar in magnitude to 'Peace in the Park', which i will continue to co-run along with PitP:S's new organiser, J.P.

SO, what's going to be happening on the 18th then? We will be starting nice and early at 12:00 midday in order to get more daytime fun out of the day.

At 1pm we will be having some beginners workshops in loads of disciplines, including poi, staff, juggling, plate spinning, diabolo, unicycling, stilt-walking, balance, acrobalance and more. These workshops will be provided by the friendly people at Swamp Circus Trust, Englands longest running contemporary circus organisation, with help from volunteers from The Flying Teapots and Sheffield Hallam's Juggling Society.

At 2:30pm we will be having our first show of the day, which will be a mixture of traditional and contemporary circus and 'twirling' to awe and amaze you. This will showcase local acts from Sheffield and Yorkshire, both professional and up-coming..

After the show we will have a few hours for free spinning, making new friends, eating haribo and all those other things we all love to do, while we prepare things for the fire show when it gets dark..

About 4:30pm when its dark the fire show will begin. We have a new choreographed performance by Fyrotechniks, featuring spinners from The Flying Teapots Society; This will be followed by individual performances by various local performers and will then lead into renegade performances from our guests from across the country.

Once all the fire has burnt out we will be making our way back to the evening's venue (location TBA) where people are free to relax and continue on at their own pace for the remainder. There will be plenty of fun and games continuing on into the night, and possibly a return for those hilarious past-times: sleeping bag juggling and midnight buckaroo..!

We will have a venue for people to sleep over for the night, so those of you traveling up for the day don't need to rush off in the evening and miss out on any of the fun..! :-) As always, this is the only part of the day where we ask for a contribution to cover the cost of the venue. As yet we do not have a definite price for this, but it will be no more than £4 per person, and possibly even free dependent on funding..

Anyone wishing to sleep over in the hall please email me at:

sheffpip@googlemail.com

Please tell me your name and how many people will be staying the night, along with any requests such as parking info..

If anyone needs any further details which I may have missed out, please email me on the address above. I will give out my mobile number on this page closer to the date in case anyone needs to get in contact on the day for whatever reason..

Peace n Pineapples
