I've seen people and clothes burnt, but calories seem to take 1 look and wander away un-interested

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

I reckon it's not a huge amount. Prolly abt 3/400 per hour, and lighter people will use less still.

but.. if you spin in the morning, chances are you'll have a higher metabolism for the rest of the day, so you'll carry on burning extra calories without realising it too.

It depends entirely on spinning style and poi style I think.

Someone spinning slowly with light poi and practising their airwraps while standing still are going to be burning very few calories compared to someone spinning faster with heavy poi while dancing around.
There are far too many variables to give any concrete answer I reckon.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Surely it would depend on your spinning style, the more you dance and bounce about, the more calories that you burn biggrin

I can spin with my training poi for hours and feel nothing, but when I use my fir poi or glow poi, I use so much more energy. I also like to dance/move about so I usually find my poi to be quite a good work out!

well i did some research and its averaging
40 - 75 calories every ten minutes, depending on if your stationary or energetic

so thats like
240 - 450 calories an hour.
hmmm i'll average it... (calculating... this may take a while....)
...345 per hour.

I reckon less than walking, but if you use your feet and prance about a bit, and do long arm stuff, as much as walking.

If you are learning new stuff, it might burn more brain calories ubblolif you catch my drift.

I don't reckon the people who "invented" poi long ago ever thought about burning calories. :P

What if your spinning horizontally? I imagine that because you have to apply more pressure to keep the poi horizontal ( opposed to spinning vertically and doing half the work while gravity does the rest)you'd be burning more calories... just a thought though. Also spinning on your back or while hanging from something.
