So today was my first shift in the ER.

Today I:

•Wrote and signed a prescription for the first time.
•Wrote and signed orders for the first time.
•Wrote and signed notes for the first time.
•Started two IV's.
•Sutured up a 2-year-old boy's forehead.
•Diagnosed a case of coxsakie virus.
•Picked up a phone and said "Pediatric Emergency. This is Dr. Ginsberg."

Just lots of little things like that.

It was *GREAT!!!* I loved it! It was hot (A/C was broken), hard work, my feet and back hurt, I'm exhausted...

But I did good work, especially for my first day. And I'm looking forward going back in the morning. biggrin

Night, all. Be well! hug

What, lots of people use their laptops while sitting on the throne. It's just postmodern baffroom reading.

I'm just the only one brave enough to admit it. *crosses arms and nods affirmatively*

Meanwhile I spent my afternoon helping a mate who has 3 children under 3.. including a pair of boisterous boy twins who are in that 'I know what I want but I can't say it yet so I'll bite you' stage. Dad's out working to keep a roof over their heads. She gets slightly sick, hurts her back, the kids end up in an ambulance. Having kids ain't all roses and cutesy coos guys....

So is it really like ER then and are you the young dashing Dr Carter? Tee hee hee sorry but I can't get any other picture of US Hospitals in my head ... except Scrubs but it can't really be like that though can it? Well done on finding a job you enjoy and are good at!

No, it's NOT like Scrubs. I can never figure out what service they're on in Scrubs. It's not ER, it's not medicine, and it's not Surgery...and it's not peds.

And I remember seeing a WARD on the show. A real, honest-to-god, wide-open, no-barriers-between-the-patients, WARD.

Haven't had those for DECADES. They still do in Britain, but with curtains between the beds.

ER's a bit more realistic, but ER shows a lot more traumas and catastrophes than an ER would really have. I mean, I work in the Bronx and we rarely get a big-deal trauma case. Maybe 1-2 a day and we're a level 1 trauma center.

And you don't yell "HIS SATS ARE DROPPING!" You tap someone on the shoulder and say "look at his sats."
