You could always sell the busted one on eBay to get some money back. They can still go for quite a bit in that state, as a lot of people on there can use the parts from several to make a good one.

Nothing wrong with Apples, bit pricey, but so sexy. Been a PC bigot for years, then I got me a lime green clamshell iBook, and I just love it. I'm just not going to use MacOS on it is all wink

my pc may be LOOK boring but its whats on the inside that counts. unfortunatly my computer had a small accident as well so the inside isnt what it used to be (stupid fan):(. still works alright though. buy a pc or build one of your own. its cheaper and better.

and macs Vs pcs is a big arguement.

i say PCs, its my personal choice, but they offer me more for what i do on a computer.

Tip you want a computer you can afford build it urself, much cheaper to build high spec system than buying at extortionate prices... you could fork out about £500 and build urself a very decent system. Hhehehehe

As was previously mentioned, sell your old one on ebay, there's plenty of small companies that refurb laptops. Use the money you make to buy some accidental insurance.

Mine looks nice and is a PC inside too smile. Apples straight out of the box do look quite nice, but buying a computer because it looks nice is a bit shallow. Then again if you've got money to throw away then performance and upgradability probably arn't an issue tongue. There's thousands of PC cases available and if you really want, you can use most mac perhipitals on a PC (i used to have an apple pro keyboard, I've now got a widescreen tft monitor using the same lcd panal as the cinema 20).

meh, check out the mac vs pcs thread that i started, youll clearly see most people like pcs better but macs are the nicer machine

also ssoooooo soon macs will overtake pc sales over here just like they have done in america, so many macs are appearing on tv aswell now, i havent really seen any pcs, probably cuz most of them look ugly and bulky

could anyone find a pc that performs as well as a mac with the same hardwear

sorry this has sort of turned into one of my regular arguements, any updates on your computer, what are you buying this time doc? are you ok?

You see macs on tv more as they are paid placements, just like certain shows will have coke and not pepsi.

total mac sales is something like 2-3% of entire computer sales. They still have a while to go before they take over personal computers sales.

lol, i know a few americans and they all have atleast 2 macs in the house

soon the rest of the world will realise that they are the better computer

i think the whole computer sales thing is atleast partly because people think oh i need a computer and go to pc world or some other pc dealer, because its easier to know where to go with a pc when buying one, as with macs and buying one, i had to buy mine off the net because there simply just isnt any mac stores anywhere

plus there are soo many manufacturers of pcs nowerdays its insane

not all pcs are ugly, just most of them are, i was looking at some nice looking alienwear pcs earlier, strange but nice

And with computer hardware, there are many vendors, but they are just offering the same parts with slightly different names. there is usually only 2-3 actuall makers of the parts and lots of people sell them with thier name

But drum roll pleasee.....
I dropped it off of my house (second story) and onto the floor. It was turned on. I got down from the roof and continued doing my history homework.

since when? I'd be very interested in seeing proof that that's happened for total intel/amd sales verus apple

No, and I'd be very suprised if anyone can (so would Intel). Macs don't run on the same hardware as pcs (plus by saying PC I assume you're over generalising them as Microsoft Windows). There is plans for apple to move to x86 intel architecture, but if they do then I'd say that's a demonstration of how huge and cost effective PC archiecture is.

Macs use exactly the same type of harddisk as PCs. They are no more or no less suseptible to hardware failure. In my line of work I've seen plenty of harddisks fail. As for viruses, do a search on "there's no such thing as security through obscurity". It's the number one rule in computer/network security. Macs are no harder to write viruses for, and viruses will appear for them in time.

Indeed, this is particularly true for memory. You'll also find if you ever deal with any taiwanese manufacturers (where most our computer parts come from) that the companies are incredibly insestuous, there's a lot of deals between them and a lot of things you buyy from one company will have components from multiple companies. One of the things I get through a lot at work is Seagate harddisks. In a crate of 50 you'll see maybe 3 or 4 different chipsets made by different people, to the same spec on exactly the same model of drive. To anyone not checking you'll never know.

i like macs just for the fact no money goes to bill gates and his fat mounds of money and the fact they are far more stable then IBM compatible pc's. No matter what you say they will always have reduced rendering times for 3d graphics programs over the pc aswell so there you go don't sell your soul when buying a computer simply buy a mac!

That's not a reason to like something! There's plenty of alternatives to MS Windows (plus you could always just use an illegal copy of Windows if you really hate it, and give copies to your friends). I'm still not totally sure why people don't like bill gates thou, other than it's 'cool'

where do you mac users get your info from? Do you just make it up or is there special brainwashing lectures run by the same people that train religious fanatic door knockers?

As Steve Jobs (your god) is CEO of pixar we'll use them as an example. Pixar use PC compatible Intel Xeon machines running Linux for their render farm. They use OSX on macs for desktop machines, most likely as a cost saving exercise (they probably get them free from Steve's other workplace) over running proper gfx workstations like sgi. If alias|wavefront is your cup of tea and you've got a large IT budget, there's no better way to run it than on a machine made by the same people, designed from the ground up for graphics programming. SGIs are lush, but you need serious money to afford them and they go out of date too quick, hence companies switching to linux. I've an SGI octane (the model used in the mass fight scene of the first LOTR) which having been used as a radiator in the winter is now sitting at the bottom of my wardrobe.

Pixar Animation Studios, which brought the world "Monsters Inc." and "Toy Story," is switching from Sun Microsystems to Intel, as the melodrama in the server market heats up.

The Emeryville, Calif.-based film studio is replacing servers from Sun in its "render farm"--a bank of servers that fuses artists' images into finished film frames--with eight new blade servers from RackSaver. In all, the blade system contains 1,024 Intel 2.8GHz Xeon processors, and it runs the open-source Linux operating system.
