After the success of the invasion of Ireland I thought I would put an idea forward that was talked about a bit on the weekend.

The idea is that we pick a country to invade each year or maybe we could make it a couple a year depending on how busy everyone is. To this end, I have kind of volunteered to arrange an invasion of Wales in the near future. What I need to know from people is what they would like there to be on this invasion.

Wales has lots to offer so narrowing it down a bit would help me to formulate some kind of plan. Thanks for any input. It will all help. biggrin

I would absolutly LOVE to be apart of this. But it would depend greatly on time and money... Being an Aussie, I would have to know well in advance so I can save up moneys. wink

As I have never been out of Australia either this would be a great opportunity to do so... and with so many wonderfull people. biggrin

What about The Gower (National Wildlife preserve down past Swansea)

or

Shell Island (https://www.shellisland.co.uk) a tidal island with a causeway not far from Llanbedr

I agree with Birgit, September is looking pretty empty so far...? Anywhere you were thinking of?

Hahaha! I can just imagine me queuing at the consulate or wherever to get my visa, having my fingerprints taken in case I'm a terrorist etc, and then the guys asking: "for what reason do you want to go to the US?"

Birgit: "We will invade and play with fire."

I bet that would be funny. But since I might actually want to go to the US at some point even with the increased security harrassment, I maybe shouldn't try.

Funnily enough we were already plotting that particular invasion Lightning. We thought it better to finish invading our own country first though wink

And Birgit, it isn't that bad. Though I do like the questions on the back of the landing card:

1) Are you a terrorist Y/N
2) Are you a saboteur Y/N

and something about moral terpitude that I forget.

You do if your British and have an old style (whatever that means!) passport. And the only consulate issuing them is in London. Hence I have no intention of going to the USA until they stop being silly.

Can the invasion be sometime when I have holidays? Or at least a holiday Monday. Then I can invade properly! I love Wales, my mum is Welsh. I'd love to meet the lovely Skully too. Oh wait, I get to at Falmouth, YAY! biggrin

I remember hearing that people would have to go to Frankfurt and queue for visa/fingerprints, because apparently there's just 1 place in Germany that does it. And because our passports don't have biometrical data everyone has to go there and queue. It's a bit silly; they should at least do it in a few more places. Considering there's still army bases all over West Germany they could've employed maybe 3 or 4 more people to make it a bit less difficult... plus, as a German citizen, do I go to London or do I actually have to fly into Frankfurt?

I also remember from when I last went that they had a "do you plan to sell illegal drugs" question on their little card which was greatly amusing.

I agree with Kat on the "won't go there unless they stop being silly" issue... though I may have to for work.

I like Brazil's way of dealing with it though:
"The exemptions have angered a number of countries, but only one has taken action. On 1 January, Brazil began fingerprinting and photographing all US citizens entering the country. The retaliatory measures have escalated into a diplomatic spat between the two nations but have proven popular for the Brazilian leadership."

Ok so you all want to risk rain in september do you? Strugs whats wrong with september for you? is it a particular time you can't make, because you know we will always plan around our man that leads from behind ubblol

The suggestion of the Gower is ok if people don't mind paying for camping and want to go to the beach. We may have problems with spinning fire in wildlife reserves because they may class it as poluting the area. On the plus side there are buses that go from Swansea to the Gower and swansea is on a mega bus route and has a train station.

Dependant on how many people come with cars we could base ourselves in one place and take day trips out to waterfalls/rivers/castles. I'll do some proper research over the weekend and try and come up with some set options for you to pick from rather than the vague options I've given you so far.

If you really think you are going to get any dry weather in October in Wales you are crazy! We are pushing it with September for the weather. I'm sorry if the date that gets picked doesn't suit everyone but there is no way I can please all of you with the date. There will always be someone unable to attend. The plan is it will be over a weekend so even if you don't make all of it you might be able to get there for the sat and sunday.

Ok Option 1 is starting to form in my head......

The place I want to take you to is Henrhyd Falls which is just inside the Brecon Beacons national park. I've found a farm campsite about 2 miles from the falls in Pen-y-cae. I haven't yet spoken to the farmer but will do if people fancy this plan. One problem is that I don't think any buses run straight from Swansea to Pen-y-cae. They get as far as Abercrave which is about 3 miles away.

In the area we have the Dan-yr-ogof caves , the animal rescue sanctuary (which I think still has a pub and resturant on site) ,and Craig-y-nos park. Its very beautiful countryside with the Black mountains to the west and the Brecon Beacons to the east, but it is out of the way if you don't have your own transport..... maybe be a problem but could be go round as we did in Tara.

I'll come up with option 2 once google decides to understand what I meant for it to look for and not what I type for it too look for ubblol and will probably involve the Gower, the sea and more camping. ubbrollsmile

How does September friday 9th throught to the 12th sound to people as Invasion dates?

I may have found us a farmer thats on the Gower that will rent us a field for the 4 days. She is a relative of someone I work with. As yet haven't heard back about if they will let us or how much it will cost. They are on the tip of the gower at Llangennith. Buses do go there from Swansea but I'm told the Farm is about a 1 1/2 mile walk from the bus stop.

I'll keep looking for options and keep you posted so you can choose which one you want to do. biggrin
