Nope, don't need to be a student at all, if you're not a student you dont *have* to pay but all donations to the society are welcome ubblove

It'll be somewhere in oxford, Madding Crowd or possibly

thanks mic, you were missed

in other news I've lost my phone, and had to cancel the sim, I'm still hopeful of getting it back, I can't afford a new decent one, having had no problems with mobiles in 10 years I didn't cough up for insurance frown

so I had been trying to organise a spin during the southparks fireworks night on the 4th of nov, Matt W knew some of the guys involved with actually doing the fireworks and they seemed very keen. to be honest Matt's really done all the work on this as he knew the guys.

after trying to deal with H&S issues, and succeeding (well done Matt), it has unfortunately finally come a total cropper because of insurance. Matt was told we had to sort it out ourselves, and couldn't be added to any policy for the rest of the display.

Sadly I was overly optimistic on getting insurance sorted out cheaply, I'd never fully looked into FIRE performing insurance, and it's considerably more than any other dangerous sport insurance I've dealt with.

So much so this has unfortunately turned out to be FAR to expensive to consider for one nights unpaid spinning for anyone I know to consider (£120 - 160 for a years cover, PER PERFORMER, no where does per event cover).

As it's per performer I wouldn't consider it even assuming there'd be a reasonable take from donation buckets and several thousand spectators (who frankly after paying £6 to get in will probably be quite tight fisted, or reasonably assume it's all already being paid for ) frown

Hey y'all

I've been very slack...I should have kept a watch on Oxford spinning from the start. I'm now three and a half years into an Oxford Degree and i barely know any of you.

For those who don't know me I'm Matt- I ran the Oxford university juggling society last year. I'm currently in Bristol on an industrial placement as part of my degree, but I'll be back in Oxford being a student (and thus having lots of spare time to throw around) from Jan.

I know Yakumo and Beth I've met a couple of times- at the EJC in Ireland and again at Bristol juggling convention.

Whan I get back to Ox I should be a little more involved

I think the Bristol juggling convention needs to be called Bristol or somesuch

The BJC is clearly the British Juggling Convention.

I've only been to one British- Whitstable, ages ago. I really loved it and then never went again umm

Naa Bristol juggling convention is blatantly the BJC. The British juggling convention is just the British. smile

Hows the placement going?

for me...all for myself?

the placement is truely excellent. I'm working at a company called https://www.ocrobotics.co.uk/
on some really cool robotics stuff. I have a snake-arm robot next to me at my desk now and I can control it from this computer. I'm doing modelling and control work.

The work is interesting and they don't mind it that I can never get in on time in the mornings, or if I post on HOP from work. smile smile

you can have a hug

Hi there,

not a great time of year to meet spinners in Oxford I'm afraid, so many of them off to see friends/family, & many are students too, so away for the holidays.

I'm away to a spinners meet in Edinburgh myself, and won't be back till late on the 2nd or 3rd so I'm not much help I'm afraid, and staying at a friends myself so I don't get to offer crash space frown

If you find space I'd be happy to try meet up once I'm back, and do what I can to try and organise some others too if I can find anyone about.

You should do an introduction thread (start from your users "My Home" page) , it's the first place most people would look to try to get to know a little about you smile

Happy Christmas!

Mic!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I thought of you on new years day, tried to send a txt smile I'm in London tonight till probably quite late, going to meet Samboflux before making the final leg of my trek back from Edinburgh, I'll PM you my no. again so if you have a phone that works in the UK could you drop me a txt so I can get hold of you smile I'd be very surprised if I made it back before midnight tbh, most likely tomorrow instead.

Juggling at the cowley rd centre is on tonight, sounded like K__ should be about, I don't know about the others.

There are 2 spinners from amsterdamn in oxford apparently, anomatos and nessa lossehelin, they didn't leave me a number though, so all I've been able to do is PM them it's happening :-/

hug

Ah, with the heavy wind and crazy rain the quite voice
'maybe another glass of wine' was just too tempting.

Finally I'd decided to pop in on the way home just to see
people...but I didn't even manage to go home last night!

Sorry to miss you!
