as everyone knows the one and only topping for a scone is clotted cream and jam.
but me and some others were having a heightened argument about which to put on first the cream or the jam it seems all of us from devon think cream first but some friend from taunton said jam first and unfortunately a fellow devoner born and bred who movedd there has now turned to the dark side. which way do you do it?

it's pronounced scon
and you don't need to spread the jam you just dollop it on top of the cream which is always clotted.

I like raisins, but crumpets are nicer, and scotch pancakes are nicer than scones

tongue

but having posted that, i do actually agree with the ozzies that the cream should go on second.

but than again, i disagree that it can be anything other than strawberry jam and clotted cream (which is always a bit yellow - whipped cream is wrong and wouldn't taste right).

for those that don't know, this is clotted cream:

yeay, thank you yoni! i need as many as i can get! as long as they all fit in my car! If i get enough i'm going to make a crazy rubber stilt walking costume.

All this talk of clotted cream and scones, i'm going to have to get baking again!

Scones are only all dry and yucky if they aren't fresh. They have very little fat in them which makes them dry out quickly. Straight out of the oven is always the best way biggrin

curiosity toastied the cat - your right about those scotch pancakes mmmmmm although i always called them drop scones, we used to make them on the hotplate on our aga when i was a kid....oh happy memories!

we're not upside down, your guys are upside down!

and scons are only dry and yucky if you cook them wrong or let them dry out. When i was little mum had trouble letting them cool down before my sister and I had eaten them all, hehehe i love eating them warm. You can just put a bit of butter on them to melt mmmmmmmmmmm....
