as everyone knows the one and only topping for a scone is clotted cream and jam.
but me and some others were having a heightened argument about which to put on first the cream or the jam it seems all of us from devon think cream first but some friend from taunton said jam first and unfortunately a fellow devoner born and bred who movedd there has now turned to the dark side. which way do you do it?

Jam is always the last topping, whether going on peanut butter, cream cheese, or clotted cream. I don't get it.

Cream, then Jam. I'm American and even I know this. Silly Tauntonites.

I have had this argument many times with my friends!
Not all of us tauntonites are silly! (btw yoni, who is your taunton friend...its so small here i might know them!)

Cream then Jam.......its the only way, it makes sense! The cream acts in the same way as butter would - it seals in the crumbs and provides a nice platform for the jam

Try spreading cream on top of jam...its not easy, its just messy. You end up with a mangled yucky mess. Anyone who eats scones like this is just silly!!

Cream then jam only works if you don't have a quarter of an inch thick of cream like I used to before I had to stop eating dairy products, unless you use jam so runny it should be called fruit sauce!

i agree, jam then cream, how on earth do you 'spred' jam onto something soft and fluffy like cream (i'm sure it can be done, i just can't imagine how it wouldn't squish all the cream away).

and yup, i say scon, but i believe the queen says scowns
