I picked Lightning based on my costume that I made for Burning Man which has a lot of EL glow wire sewn onto it and thus made me look like walking lightning. I also think that lightning is Nature's coolest fireworks show. It's a name that suits my stage presence, my appearance, and my art.

Lightning is also a character, much like Pele is a character for the real "Pele," and in the same way, the difference between Lightning and Mike is blurring...

Although Lightning is much more likely to take off his shirt in public than is Mike. wink

The existance of flamethrowers says that someone, somewhere, at sometime said "I need to set that thing on fire, but it's too far away."

a bit dusty, thanks...
how about frederick the very nearly sane?
frederick the flammable?
frederick the guy with the bruised buttocks?
or maybe frederick the guy with an irrational fear of fruit?

but anyhow, back to you and the subject of stage names. i think you should base your name on your style. what do you wear?what do you do? are you bouncy? energetic? a powermove fanatic? martial artist? gymnastic/acrobatic? fluid and graceful? do you use slapstick or comedic patter? take all your traits, and try to come up with an adjective that wraps it all up, or comes close... then see what names represent it, or what name you can make up to represent that adjective.
just an idea.

my name is derived not only from the props i use, but heavily based on my style as well. i use power moves, martial arts, fluidity, speed, and some acrobatics. i try to come up with moves that combine two or more things, i.e. the cartwheel you saw. i also perform staff while blindfolded, challenge the drummers to duels of speed (i always win, as i tend to practice my speed to "Flight of the Bumblebee") and do different things with firebreathing, like continue to sustain the flame after the torch is removed from the initial burst. i have held that flame for 7.5 seconds at my best. so the name i chose fits me, in my opinion.
i hope my example has helped you out in figuring out your own stage name...

Luloah is my stage name for dance/anything else. "Irene" isn't a very exotic sounding name, especially when most people's grandma's name is Irene. There is the safety part of it as well, but I haven't been stalked or anything.
