I was thinking today about a couple of situations I am currently involved in, or have been, that have the real potential to be serious downers but then if I look at one small thing about it, it makes me smile, makes me happy and that potential crappiness is not so bad.
It's finding the positive in a negative and thought it might make for an interesting thread.

For example:

It made me happy when after, quite potentially, one of the worst shows I have ever delivered for alot of circumstances, my agent..who is part of an international juggling team and whom I have never met face to face (and he did not book this show, btw), came up and introduced himself to me. He then said, "This show is really great. I know you were in the wrong place for the wrong crowd, and I can see that in the right setting you would blow the crowd away. I perform so I know what to look for. I'm impressed." It really turned it all around for me.

It makes me laugh when I am so wickedly sunburned that anything that touches my skin hurts (like now) and someone pulls the aloe gel from the refridgerator and slathers it on me. That initial jump from the cold time after time is really silly and shocking.

It makes me happy when after gritting my teeth and dealing with idiots that one person that I least expected to comes through in a way I didn't even imagine, and I found out when I wasn't supposed to.

I like it when after a screaming match with a friend for the person unnecessarily freaking out, that a much needed and never said before apology comes out of left field...and I realized that is all I wanted to hear.

I know..I am an optimist. I can't help it, but these really are things I noticed in situations that made me feel like crap, and those little things made me feel so much better.
Try it..you might like it!

I need to go find Rubber Duckies now. biggrin

Sorry, figured I'd just highlight the dirty parts for those that like to skim.

im a bit of a pessimist but its still good to get a lift from a bad situation
at my job because im on checkouts i have to deal with some really obnoxious people and the best thing in the world is when the next person says something like "what was wrong with them" it just makes you feel like your not being akward and is so funny smile

i look at the crappy things/days in life, and i like to try and think that they help me in two ways:

First, they make me stronger, and help me grow. people insulting me at school - it's helped me become a person that can look at people like that and ignore it. stuff like that.

Second, i think that there needs to be a balance in life. If i hate everything indiscriminately, then because it's all at the same level, i dont really hate anything, same with love. you need to have love, and hate. Same with good days and bad days. you need those crappy times to be able to appreciate the good ones, and you need the good ones to think how much better than the bad ones they are. Thats a messy explanation, but it works in my head wink

Optimism is a great way to live life, then again so if naivity, go ask Forest Gump wink

Anyway, in the spirit of things how about a sing song?

ALL TOGETHER NOW

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of [censored]
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

Let's relight this forum ubblove

Kids are a really good source of both the good and the bad.

Like when my daughter drives me crazy and I get mad because she won't listen. And then she hugs me and says "I love you mommy"
