When I first starting spinning with my friends they were definatly longer then my arm and when I made my own they were a good length as well.
I like the feel of length and the radial look of it, but somewhere I read that they should be about as long as your arm.
However
I seem to be smacking myself more.. this of course might because I have to relearn a bit... but really... Should they be long, short.. is it about preference? technique?

Long and flexible baby cool

Seriously though, I like my chains about as long as my arm, or sometimes a little longer. I too like the radial look, and it opens up moves like neck wraps and stuff. You can also always make em shorter.

BTW, use the search feature before you post. You'll probably find alot of topics just like this one, or very similar.

Well - the good thing about long poi, is you can just wrap them round your hand mid-spin to make shorter poi. Whereas you can't lengthen short poi mid-spin...

I also prefer slightly longer chains, I size mine so the heads will be less than an inch the ground when my arms are at my sides. I also sheathed a portion of my chain in suede for enhanced wrapping pleasure.

I went out and bought these two dogs leashs, cuz it was cheap for the amount of chain... and then I thew my poi onto the end..

HAHAHA

wheeeeeeeeee. that was pretty cool..

Yeah I kept my short ones but I think I'll go with slightly longer then my arm.. looks cool and fun.

19 inch long ballchain ^_^ I like my short chains. They feel good when I wrap.

I'm finding it hard to wrap to a good length with the chains I have now.
When I wrap once it seems to long and when I do it twice it's ... almost still too long but three would be impossible.
Also my fingers are uncomforable holding them between my index and thumb....

hear me whine
