could work nyc but i think once the ratings have been around for a while, they will work, even with everyone having the ability to rate threads.

i think the issue you raised is where the sticky threads could come into their own - threads compiled by people who spend lots of time in a particular forum and know where the really useful nuggets of information are.

unfortunately appreciation is one of those things that nobody mentions

people complain about things if they are displeased but they rarely notice, or they presume it normal when they are pleased

as a mod (or any similar position) i guess you have to realise the proportion of people who complain compared to the proportion of people who don't complain in order to realise that you are appreciated - this is not always easy

i guess what i meant to say is i appreciate all the work done on this site, and the continuing effort made to change for the better as time passes.

so if old, useless, chatty, double and bad threads get deleted, does that effect the post-count of us users and will Cantus' post-count then suddenly drop from over 10.000 to only half of that? umm

Don't worry, post count isn't affected by deleting posts or threads - it's a number stored separately from all that.

heres my 2 cents. i love the idea of thread rating. i wish when i started spinning i could have gone directly to the threads pertaining to my intrests that were rated high by more experianced users. i would however, like to be able to defer rating a thread before i post on that thread. sometimes i forget to rate the thread and type a message. then i submit and rate the thread ok, when i would have liked to rate it something else. in the end i have to retype my message. there are also times when im not sure which way a new thread will go but if i want to post on it i feel im forced to rate it prematurly. i dont want this coment to be taken as a complaint but as a piece of constructive critisism. thank you all for contiually improving the site and working so hard to make it user friendly.

What about a rating that could be repeat post/post in wrong place or something?

and a do a search smiley would be cool biggrin

Plus then you could make 3 new smileys too so you've got a full line in the window wink

Um, The 'do a search' Smiley is a great idea...

It would people like me, durbs and Ucof (to name but a few) getting misinterpretted as being a bit rude and abrupt...

i mentioned this in another thread but thought i'd post it here:

the ratings seem to have disappeared...

threads i've rated in the past are unrated again and the search doesn't push highly rated threads to the top any more...?

I had an idea.

It's probably old and not very good but I like it, so I'll post it.

How about something like an "index" page, that lists maybe 100 or so of the most-used searches, double-posts and unnecessary threads (so... incorporating some nonsense threads, stuff about coloured flames, wirewool and how to build toys, beginners moves, isolations and all that) and links to either threads or a search page for the subject?

I think thats a great idea, but after running some tests I just found a load of old posts where people just said 'do a search'.

I think everyone to reply to any future thread like that should do the search and post a link, so as to help people following the post > search > read path.

I think that there's also the issue that with this new facility we can finally expect to see threads shouting "do a search" to be deleted- every new topic will now have already performed a search, and after a little while the pressure will shift on to members clearly titling their posts.

and the thread ratings (or at least some of them) appear to be working again now.

i think it goes without saying but:

Dear Mr Malcolm

I may just be being a nervous nelly Mr Malcolm, but if you had a 'bad' option to the rating system that automatically deletes a post what's to stop someone from going around deleting the said posts for the 'fun' of it?

Regards, Mr Joker

never ever EVER, poke me with that thing.

just my little joke. As always.

Edit:

-New post that creates new page of the thread, appear as blank page.

-When editting, quote tag is modified to ":]".

-When logging, sometimes I've got MySQL error or cookie's corrupted.

-Searching whole phrase like google doesn't work.

-Search check before creating threade doesn't allow <5 letters.

-Preseach library result mix with thrread result.

I think that's a good thing Richee.

This way someone won't start a thread on "How To Make Hula Hoops" in Technical if it's already been done in "other toys".

I think it helps people not start duplicate threads in the wrong forum.

For example, if you wanted to start a colored flames question in Poi Moves you'd see that that subject was already done a billion other places.

Of course, that thread shouldn't be in "moves" but I think giving people that option helps prevent errors before they happen.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
