most shops selling gear don't play with them, or are professional photographers, they just use the marketting materials from the manufacturers, who often don't have those capabilities either. Taking good video of glo gear is hard, because they arn't bright enough for most consumer grade equipment. A normal time lapse photograph of non ultra bright glosticks looks crap compared to the same setup with fire.



What would a seller actually achive by having videos thou? If it's got a head and some string/chain then I think we can safely assume they'll work as poi, or a long pole with heads at either end a staff. There's plenty of videos out there showing exceptional spinning, but different products won't make you better.

Good points, although I really don't think it's that difficult to get decent photo's with the number of relatively cheap digicams available now. I've not really spun much with glo-sticks, but I can imagine them being more difficult to photograph.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that it's difficult to tell how good different products look when compared to each other. If the manufacturers / retailers had better pics / vids, it would be easier to see which ones give the kind of effects people are after. I work as a scientist, so I like qualifiable data

I wasn't trying to suggest different products will make you better, just that it would be nice to see how much better a £200 Aerotech is compared to a set of ultra-bright Glo sticks for example.

What would the seller achieve? Well they'd have less people coming back saying they're dissatisfied with stuff they've bought, because they'd be making a more informed purchase...

hmmm, this wasn't supposed to be a rant, I just wondered if anyone else would like to see more consistant representations of products, and comparisons of them on websites?

To be brutally honest with you, I was photographing some entirely set up shots for falmouth 3, these were your rather expensive £200 Aerotech(s), we were looking a various shooting differing combo(s) of flowery things, although tech(s) look fairly nice when spun, they don't have anywhere near enough output to form what I consider to be a passable photograph, general camera settings for that night, pre focused twenty foot, f 2.8, simulated film speed 400 asa, exp length either two or three sec's,



Best results for that shoot as compared to my usual professional work, poor to very poor,



general conclusion



If your after good light output and don't want to spend time pissing around with photoshop to salvage images, use something like luexon high output leds,

i agree, most glo shots are pityful on consumer grade equipment.

cheap digicams make cheap looking photos when it comes to photographing specialist things such as low light photography

tis true unfortunately - its very hard to get good images of both spinner and bright trails with most glow equipment.

check my gallery for aerotech balls set on 'standard' glow (there is a boost setting too but it makes very little difference to the images).

you can get great results if all you want to see is trails which would actually be okay for marketing purposes i think.

but for nice pretty shots of spinners with bright trails (like we like to see generally), the current crop of glow equipment is simply not bright enough.

I have a Canon powershot A80 which has a long exposure mode which finishes with a flash. I've taken some really nice photo's of fire with that although I confess I've never tried taking pics of other forms of Poi with it. Come to think of it, the pictures I've taken of glowing poi have either been Super-Bright LEDs or Luxeons... so perhaps I'm just inexperienced and spouting off at the mouth



Those photo's of yours are pretty cool. I'd not seen UCOF's Aero's before - those are possibly the best I've seen of them!



Does anyone have any photo's / vids of Jo's Illuminati? I've heard rumours and seen a couple of fairly unrevealing photo's, but nothing more.. perhaps that's his wish - to keep them secret?

most digicams don't have shutter priority manual functions.
I use a Pentax 750z and find that i need at least a 10" exposure from at most 5m away from the subject to have a chance at a glow shot that isn't destined for the 'del' key.
