The purpose of this post is to try to tamp the flood of PM's IM's E-mails and Texts I've received asking questions about my trip to London.

Why, the mods might wonder, am I posting it here in 'Social Chat'? Well, because I have posted it elsewhere and nobody seems to pay it any attention. So, I hereby present the...

Lightning London FAQ:

Q: 'How long will you be here?'
A: My flight leaves at 13:30 on 29 May.

Q: 'Can you come to Bristol/Eidenborough/Glascow/Dublin/Sheffield/Paris/Moscow/Johannesburg/Tokyo?'
A: I would love to have time to trapse all over the English countryside. Unfortunately I work M-F 9-5 and that doesn't leave me much trapsing time. So no, I won't be leaving London this trip.

Q: When are you leaving?
A: I SAID 29 MAY, DARNIT!!!!! rolleyes

Q: I hear you were having some sort of graduation party, but I might have an exam the next day...when was it?
A: The party is FRIDAY (i.e. you don't have an exam the next day) the 27th (of May).

Q: What are you doing for the graduation party you mentioned? Where are we meeting?
A: I have no idea yet because nobody has offered any ideas. I want some good trance or psytrance. Anyone have suggestions?

Q: How long are you here for?
A: 25/5/2005 29 May 2005. The Twenty-Ninth of the Fifth Month of the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Five. (At 13:30) That's when I leave.

Q: Will you be coming to Spitz?
A: Yes, but I show up at about 9:30 because I have swim practice until 9:00.

Q: How long are you here?
A: *sigh...* shrug Go ask your father.

Linden, and anyone else, the night of Wednesday the 25th I have swim practice until 9.

After that, drunkenness will DEFINATELY be required. Crikey...I'll have just finished the four most dreadful years of my life...what do you want me to do, stay sober?

(And did I just use the word 'crikey' without even thinking about it?)

NYC, on the 29th I'm going back to Michigan.

The only reason I'm not already starting Prozac over this is because on the 5th of June I'm moving in with you. wink

An MTA card is $76 a month? That's not bad at all... Equivalent in London cost me £180!!!!

That's fine. I'm done teaching on the 10th so it's party party time after that. smile Though will be testing for the next few weeks.

Damn, time flies, I gotta buy a ticket to Scotland soon! biggrin

And yes, NYC subways rock. And run 24 hours. And the longest scheduled wait if you miss a train (like 4 AM on a Sunday) is 20 minutes.

But don't tell the British. Their trains don't even have the complimentary urine scented air fresheners. wink

What? Your trains get complimentary urine scented air fresheners? I gotta get me some of those...

biggrin wink

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

i think 'urine scented air freshener' was just a euphemism for 'piss-soaked subway bum'...

the other bonus you guys have is mta trains with cool graffiti covered carriages cool

and yes, they are carriages by the way, not 'cars' - cars drive on roads wink
and if you try and tell me that the word 'car' is both derived from and is short for 'carriage' i will simply put my fingers in my ears and walk away tongue

You know, I rather like the London Tube system. Yes, it DOES suck that it shuts down at 1. But other than that, it's clean, quick, and the trains come every 2-3 minutes. The fact that it does shut down for 4 hours every day lets them keep it clean and in good repair. By contrast, the NY system gets less cleaning so it's disgusting and the tracks get repaired/replaced...um...when they break. HOWEVER, being able to catch a train at 3AM is HUGE.

Oh, and the trains in London have cuter accents. Although the old-fashioned trains in New York where the train operator makes the announcement are always charming. 'This is fowty-fowth strit. Next stop fitty-fith. Wetch the dourz.'
