Is your day dragging on? Does today feel like it's the longest day of your life? Well, that's probably because today is the longest day. Blame the Moon – its gravitational effect on our planet creates tidal "bulges", which slowly transfer momentum from the Earth's rotation to the Moon's orbit. As a result, the Earth's rotation is slowing at a rate of around 0.02 seconds per century – and each day is fractionally longer than the day before. Therefore, the longest day on Earth is always today!

I'm getting really fed up of more senior staff dumping work on my desk and expecting me to do it without asking. I know it's bad, but I really really want to get home and have a spliff now. Only an hour to go...

I've been up since 7am. Today is the last day of work on my dissertation. My supervisor just sent me a list of 40 things to change. It's now 9pm. Yes, this is the longest day.

ive had 6 hours infront of a PC editing the same image all day for a DVD cover
