I remember when I joined a sort of venturer group there were two adults talking about a person who

"Likes to swim, but doesn't like swimming"
"Likes to juggle, but doesn't like juggling" and suchforth.

There I was trying to play along by saying something like
"So he likes to climb trees, but doesn't like climbing?" and they told me no! I was wrong and I had no idea what was going on.

It's frustrating that I can't remember the trick of the game, it was really clever but I've forgotten it.

Anyway, my point being...

Does anyone know any other smart little 'get to know you' games?

Oh my goodness I just remembered after all these months. Fancy that. It's been eating away at me for so long.

The action of the person had to have double letters!

Anyway...

I knew a game with the same trick, but it was with nouns. It would go:

Its a tree, not a stick.
Its a door, not an exit.
Its the grass, not the lawn.
Its coffee, not tea.

And the big clue to give people was:
Its spelling, not content.

See, I know this one well.

"Molly Dodd is odd, but not peculiar"

Loves ladders but hates to climb.
Loves kittens but not cats, puppies but not dogs.
She has feet but no legs, teeth but no mouth, follicles but no hair, she sees but has no eyes.

Molly Dodd is odd but not peculiar.

She has floors and walls but no ceiling. She has halls and rooms but no home.
She has mass but no size. She plays a fiddle, but no music. She is cool but has no clue. She keeps but never holds. She collects but it's never sentimental.

Molly Dodd is odd, but not peculiar...

I'm weird. Just work through that and we'll all be fine.

she can call but does not like to talk

Yea.... I am bored at work ubbrollsmile

What exactly do I have to light on fire to get you to notice me?

actually, my favorite get to know you game is a kind of variation of musical chairs. you make a circle of chairs, with one less chair than there are people. one person stands in the middle, and says a trait about themselves (I like people with blue eyes) then every pne with blue eyes has to get up and switch chairs. whoever is left in the middle continues..

It usually starts out innocent enough, but with the right group of people it can get dirty real fast devil

What exactly do I have to light on fire to get you to notice me?

never play twister with acrobats I made that mistake once and getting to know each other is a wild underestimation of what we were doing. I didn't think it was possible to 'know' people quite so intimately in such a short space of time......

be warned, not so much of an icebreaker than a neck / sefl respect breaker. hehe

what about "i have never..." i play it as a drinking game (i play a lot of stuff as drinking games) each person takes it in turn to stand up and say something they have never done then everyone who has done it drinks :P

another good one is names, heights, dates games (basically anything that goes in order) get a line of chairs then each person stands on one then with no sound they have to get themselves in order of what ever :P

(see helping run a youth group is helpful smile)

and twister is the BEST get to know you game - especially where the person spinning gets to pick exactly where the people put hands and feet (or elbows, foreheads and noses as ive played it :P)

Last time I played that I think I drank twice! redface
ubblol
I learned loads about other people though!

Twister, 2 boards on a carpet. My body positioned over the two boards, and the boards started to slide apart. Yup...that was a fun night! I think I am still achey! lol
To make it real fun, add a dash of baby oil wink

(you like things with double letters)

pass around a toilet roll and tell everyone to take the amount of toilet paper they would normally use, then they have to say something about themselves for every bit of paper.

Also, if playing with youth, pass around a bag of MMs and tell everyone to take some, then when they have as many as they want, tell them they have to say something for every MM they take... some take HEAPS, others take like 3
