I've seen that thing in the photo featured in that article before.

And really I'm surprised the article didn't have an Umbrella ad or logo tucked in at one side or something... wtf is this doing on a real news site? It's BS.

It's not on a real news site, just one that looks like it.
Look at the address, if it was on the BBC it'd start with https://news.bbc.co.uk/

You shouldn't be doing that anyway - you'll need to be on a bike to get away quick if you have to and a shotgun's just too loud, you'll end up getting swamped.
Plus, shotguns are too heavy and the ammunition takes up alot of room. You'd be better with a .22 rifle and keep going for headshots - they're lighter and you'll be able to carry loads of ammunition, they're alot quieter too so you can stay hidden for longer.
About the only benefit a shotgun has is that loaded with buckshot it's good for clearing a path through a large group of zombies.

So sayeth the zombie survival guide smile

In the state of Texas it's legal to walk around with a shotgun, but you can't have any ammunition on your person while carrying the weapon.

I'd use a unicycle (a nice chunky, fat-tyred off-roader) unlike a bike you've got both hands free to operate weaponry, and, given that zombies are relatively slow moving, the lower speed of the unicycle shouldn't be a problem.

why all this talk about shotguns, should we not all be considering the effects of our poi or staffs?
im sure the zombies would be sent into a mystical trance by the true genius of our spinnings, from which we can then use them as zombie slaves to take over the world!!!

PS - bovril - the shotgun is all about knockback effect. if you miss a headshot with a .22 you are screwed because they just keep coming without even hesitating. miss with a shotgun and you'll still buy yourself time for another shot - plus the chances of hitting the head are higher.

good point about the noise though. anyone ever used a silencer in a zombie movie? would that work. and then there is the unproven theory that zombies can small living flesh from miles and miles away, so perhaps the sound thing doesn't matter.

A .22 does hold more ammo though...

I borrowed a copy of The Walking Dead, volume 1 from a friend the other day.
The characters in it try to avoid using their guns unless they have to because the noise draws in more zombies.

Also, in a more nasty bit - two of the characters smear themselves with zombie bits to mask their smell. Depends on the zombie though I suppose, some of them would be able to tell anyway.

Another benefit of the .22 is that while they generally have enough power to get through the skull once, they lack the punch to get out the other side, so they bounce around a bit, turning all the stuff inside to mush. Very handy for (re)killing zombies.
Of course a shotgun is going to take the whole head off, so I think that wins in that regard wink

so in this movie, I think there should be an american and a englishman arguing over the best weapons to use.

and smearing zombie juice on you - wouldn't that risk infection? one little nick or hangnail and you are the walking dead... maybe - not for sure. depends on the version of zombie lore you are currently adhearing to.

I'll have to dig out my copy of the zombie survival guide and post the kit list. It's so absurdly comprehensive I doubt anyone would be able to carry all the kit they'd need.

Hmm, it might take a while. I've just had a quick look and found that it's probably buried under a big pile of random stuff.

I suppose I should be keeping it on me at all times in case of zombie invasion, I'd be zombie food by now if I had to spend the time trying to find it before I did anything else.

Aha, found the zombie survival guide at last.

Here's the list of the weapons that should be kept at home, this is all per person staying there:
- Rifle, 500 rounds
- Shotgun, 250 shells
- .45 caliber pistol, 250 rounds
- Silencer, rifle
- Silencer, pistol
- Heavy crossbow (in lieu of silencers), 150 bolts
- Telescopic sight (rifle)
- Night vision sight (rifle)
- Laser sight (rifle)
- Laser sight (pistol)
- Katana
- Wakizashi or other short bladed sword
- Two knives with non-serrated blades 6 - 8 inches long
- Hand hatchet

That's a hell of a lot, you'd have to make sure you were properly entrenched and weren't planning on moving anywhere, it'd be far too much to carry.
