And so, announcing the worst kept secret in history.

Uberpoi will almost certainly be held on the weekend of the 16th of July.

Teachers will be confirmed in the next few weeks. but don't you worry, they're going to be DAMN good.

price will be £45.
why the increase you ask?

because the uberstaff teachers were paid a very small amount, certainly not enough for the time they put in. and we would like to pay people a reasonable amount for their work. £45 is still very cheap when compared to most weekends of this type (approx £40 per day is the usual rate).

Accomodation will be fun to sort out, but i'm going to try to find a cheap location for all.

i am away in bristol for the next week, so will not keep you up to date until after i get back.

*invites excitement*

wink

much love

ummm... some questions

1. what will the weather be like in europe this time of year? England is wet and chillly and foggy right? what about the mainland europe like germany etc.? should i bring a heavy coat, shorts and tee shirts, or pants and layers? or just g string undies?

2. will there be mirrors at the uberpoi space? will boomboxes be present? i really need one for the "choreography" class at least.

3. do i need to worry about carrying my bullwhip around on public transportation if it is packed away or locked in a gun case? seriously.

4. does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on? i mean, existence? lemmee know

5.

really? i wonder if we could at least set up a light to shadow dance to... bluecat? is there a place where we can shadow dance on the wall? or can we get a painter's light or two set up with a long throw distance? i'll be going over a lot of complex posturing and body positioning, it would really be good to have some visual feedback for people to adjust themselves.

hi Arashi,

It will be lovely to meet you biggrin

1. You are from Texas, therefore, unless we have an unexpected heatwave, you will be cold. Bring layers. Jeans, t-shirts and a jumper/sweater. A coat too (maybe even a hat for Edinburgh nights smile ). I'm not sure what mainland Europe will be like, but you can always buy some shorts if it's too warm for you.

2. No idea. Haven't been there before smile

3. Your bullwhip should be fine if it's packed away and marked as a performance item when travelling between countries. Obviously, it depends on the individual airlines, but I reckon packing it away in your checked luggage will be ok.
If you mean public transport around the UK - you'll be fine. They don't search you here (unless you have been waving a gun around, which is unlikely). Again, mark it as a performance item and you'll be fine.

4. Do you really want to know? Would it not ruin the surprise?

#2: just right in this moment it is raining here in germany, but before this rain which just started, it was about 9 days pure sunshine, 25-35° C,..... and shorts, t-shirts and your g-strings are a must for germany......is supposed to get hot again tomorrow......and the rain is nearly over again! sunny

...but as you will be in england/ireland,....before coming to germany you'll probably need a small collection of everything!?

#4: when your bullwhip is packed away you shouldnt get any troubles here, I think it should be fine then.

looking forward to meeting you sometime,

tina

Rule #1: Do not confuse Scotland and England.

Ever.

Especially if you're planning on being greatly outnumbered by Scots at a poi festival. The Scots will beat you up. Even folks that aren't Scottish but currently live in Scotland will kick your butt.

You might have even MEANT England in your post, but it's not worth the risk.

What I've learned is... Just don't say "England" at all. Even if you're going to London... just say "Great Britain" or "The UK"... You can say Scotland, you can say Wales, you can say "Great Britian" ... just don't say England. Because the English don't really care if you accidentally call them Scottish or Welsh as much as the Scots will stomp you if you call them English.

You're from Texas, you should understand this. I'd be like confusing Texas and Mexico. Or worse, Texas and New York. wink

And be sure not to call them "boy skirts"... they're called Kilts. ubblol

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Don't worry Arashi, we folks that aren't Scottish but currently live in Scotland won't kick your butt... we'll just stand by, smile apprehensively, get out our cameras and wait for the Scots' reaction ubblol

And yup, Germany should be very warm indeed, will be there in 5 1/2 days biggrin biggrin biggrin

I wouldn't worry too much about it being too cold as when exchange students came over from Ausrtalia, they didn't find it too bad, but layers are definately the way to go. The weather in Glasgow is notoriously changeable (think brilliant sunshine 1 minute, and quite literally the next minute pouring down and hail). But I think Edinburgh is a bit better, but basically, don't trust the weather, you will end up wet. It's never really foggy though, esp[especially not in the city) Europe is generally warmer and drier than the UK depending on what part you go to.

And its true about the English thing, I always refer to myself as Yorkshire, never English, especially when living in Glasgow for fear of the consequences. My old flatmate has a posh English accent even though she was brought up in Scotland (her parents are from England, so refers to herself as English, even though shes never lived there, which is very odd as most people don't like to admitt they're English!), Anyway...she has a really posh accent, and sometimes when shes out on the town Neds come up to her and tell her to go back to England ubblol (you'll learn about Neds when you get here). Luckily thats never happened to me as although I have an English accent, it is Yorkshire enough not to sound too posh. Anyway, have i bumped this enough yet?
