Wherever I go, I see that everyone uses completely different set ups for their fire poi.
What do you prefer?

Long chains can be shortened by wrapping, but you can't make a short chain longer mid-spin... Give me long chains any day!

Seriously though I was just wondering about what people thought. I know long chains have advantages, but don't you sometimes want short chains if you want to do some close up spinning without cutting off the circulation to your fingers (I hear this is very much a problem with cable/wire)? Also I do know people that would go XS any day of the week

i do prefer the smaller chain length, but i also use super long ones!

i prefer long chains. i can twirl them however i want, and shorten them mid-spin to do a buzzsaw or some mini-moves. long chains are just more convenient.
Oh, well if he was sleeping, than i would think he was me, because he is blue, and I like to sleep. but if he is dead, then it can't be me, because that would just be silly.

im thinking of ordering some overly long chains because i love how the poi seem to float when the chain is longer. And u can shorten them mid spin like everyone else noted anyway, yah yah

i like long ones when i want to do body wraps and neck wraps and the like, but i usually dance with medium, becausse they only require one wrap around the hand in order to amke em short enough to do close up stuff, where as the longer they are the more hand wraps you need to do... (obviously)...
i love to practice with all different sizes, though... since i usually dance with medium, i practice more with short when i want to work on slowing down my moves, and vice versa, i work with long when i want to speed them up... because if i can get the short ones slow and the long ones fast, then it makes my medium technique all the tighter...

Personally i have one main and two off hand ones, my main one is the classic short finger tip to shoulder leangth, and my second favorite is to is a 48 inch long String thing from a pair of really big old scrubs with a 8 inch peice of jack chain at the end, my third favorite is using glowsticks ran through a knotted shoe string making it large glow poi 4 ft long and doing different types butterflys with them, big bright and beautiful!

I personally prefer short chains. The only thing I really miss is the cool UTL stuff I can do with longer ones but short has all the advantages for throws and buzzsaws that I want.

I prefur short wire cause of the tossing and buzzsaw stuff you can do. But I aslo have long ballchain that I aslo use alot

Well, if the heads you are using are made from rubber bands nicked from the supply cabinet, the logical choice would be a paperclip chain...
