So I'm trying to rent a UK cellphone.

So far I found these guys: www.rentacellularphone.com/default.asp

They charge US$65 for the month plus US45¢ per minute outgoing local calls and US45¢ for each txt.

Anyone know of any better deals?

Ok, so that's great.

Um...

How do I do that? Virgin Mobile has one for 30 quid that comes with 15 quid free airtime. Are there stores all over or what?

Yeah - they have stores all over the place, as do orange and all the rest of them.

Depends where you are going to spend most of your time - I use orange but orange aren't that great if you are stuck in the middle of the country side - I think Vodophone are meant to be good. If you find a Carphone Warehouse when you arrive (they are dotted around all over) they will be able to give you better advice.

I have an orange simm and maybe even a handset you can use for the duration of you visit lightning- the simm isn't a prob- the handset I'm less sure about- anyone else got a cheap handset on orange lying about?

All you'd need to do is put the pay as go credit on it smile

Unfortunately it does. I have to work 9-5 M-F while I'm there, and I don't get much time on either side. I may arrange a short jaunt off to...somewhere...for a night or two when I finish. We'll see.

whatever you do dont let any shop keep try to convince you into buying a hadset on the 3 network, its rubbish. i live in the centre of manchester and am contantly getting cut off. i was pretty happy with t-mobile beforehand though and people with O2 never complain unless theyve tried ringing their customer services

OK- Well I have a brand new pay as you go Orange simm pack which I can give you directly OR I can leave it with someone/ post it to someone you'll be seeing soon after you arrive- Are you staying with a fellow HOPper? If so I could mail it to their address and it'd be there waiting for you smile

I probably has to be activated and all that- doesn't take long as far as I'm aware... other than that its yours, hassle free biggrin
