Hmmmm he seems like a mixed bag; sometimes good (issues such as Turkey being admitted into the EU) and sometimes bad (issues such as contraception). Hopefully, he will do a lot of good as Pope.

I think it's going to be impossible to get a young pope. The prvious one just lived far far too long, and all his successors are very old, as will the successors of this new one wil be too. I blame the popemobile...

he is a nazi!

the son of a police officer who was staunchly anti-Nazi. In 1937 Ratzinger's father retired and settled in the town of Traunstein. When Ratzinger turned 14 in 1941, he was required by law to join the Hitler Youth, but according to his biographer John Allen he was not an enthusiastic member.

where do you get the idea that he is a nazi and a friend of hitlers??? Maybe it is true, i really do not know much about him, but i did read in the link up there that he was drafted into the german army. I don't think that makes him a nazi, it just makes him german

pk - what have you based your information on to come up with a post like that? I hope it’s not due to the fact that he is German. 78 - That would mean that he was 18 at the END of the Second World War so you better have a good reference for your comments or it will be dismissed as bigotry.

Edited to express how offended I am at your post pk. I hope that it’s just a simple case of you not expressing your viewpoint properly (due to whatever reason), although after reading your post regarding the flaming unicycle I fear that this is not the case.

Homosexuality a trend towards intristic moral evil?

I thought I once heard 10% of animals and humans in nature have homosexual tendencies due to inbalances in brain chemistry. Some people can't choose, how does that work? evil?

Lets face it, IMHO whoever the pope was it would have changed much. As soon as people start looking for some greater being about the world someone else has power over them and will tell them how to live. If you think thats a good way to run your life then great, but it's not for me.

Again, IMHO.

ouch pk... that was more than just a bit silly! eek

If he's 78 now he was drafted as a minor (quite common by the end of WW 2 by the way), was 6 years old when Hitler was first elected, and 12 when Poland was invaded... I hope you're not gonna say that I'm a friend of Hitler as well just because I'm German and lived at the same time as Ratzinger??? I also hope you realise that the "he's old and German so he's a Nazi" reasoning is actually fascist in itself... I'll stop the actual rant here cause otherwise I'd go on forever.

Also, I think that (wrong as I think Catholics are about many things) someone who dedicates his life to a religion that tries to encompass people of all races and nationalities is probably quite unlikely to be a Nazi. And it was the German cardinals who opposed him the most as far as I know.

On a funnier note, I read this interview with a German catholic female theologist who'd studied at uni with him, and she said it was always clear he was going to be a cardinal, because apparently he was highly intelligent and completely asexual ubblol

And BBC says:

"In 1966 he took a chair in dogmatic theology at the University of Tuebingen.

However, he was appalled at the prevalence of Marxism among his students."

Hahaha... so very true... I studied there, all Bavarian profs I've had have been complaining about the lack of conservative thinking among the students biggrin

ubblol sounds quite different then here, the conservative stronghold of canada ubblol but being worried about the preliferation of marxist thought makes me a little worried about this new pope. Of course, thats also because i've been hearing rumours and reports that he is conservative himself...ouch, more conservatives in power... confused...but then i'm more of a socialist in a capitalist province biggrin

ouch, more conservatives in power...

*grins*

I suspect it may be a while until a non-conservative pope is elected... for my taste it'd be a start if contraception (especially the type that protects from HIV...) got approved and encouraged. But that's probably too much of a revolutionary thing to ask for frown
