I read in one of the threads that Dangerboy is into biology or something which got me wondering...what do you do as a day job????For me, this is my day job. I also am a freelance writer. I own a production company called Creative Illusions, which helsp coordinate different acts, including Pyromorph. I also direct/teach improv theater and write for events.Other than that I have managed a book store, been a bartender at a wild bar and taught first and second grade special ed, none of which is nearly as fulfilling as performing to me (though bartending is close).Oh, and now I can also add that I am the newly inducted Reptile Specialist at a small pet store chain here in the middle of nowhere. It doesn't interfere with the performing and it is another job I love to pieces! And yes, I do know I am one of the lucky ones!

Nothing mounted in planes or anything but some are put on choppers and the rest are pretty much hand carried with the exception of a few that have to be broken down to be carried. I also fix morters and rocket launchers. My dream job is being a GM on Ultima Online. Paid to play a game. How much cooler of a job can you get?!?

These days I switch into the robot for the day then spin fire and mix tunes during the night in order to shake off the past 8 hours.Sorry for weaving this sorry tale but I've been producing and drinking all night and the only ones left to listen are you!

I'm a bit new so be gently..lol. Anyway, right now I go to a community college (because Art School made me bankrupt). I study Japanese language, printmaking, photography, sewing. I also take Hula, Tahitian, & Maori dance class at night at MUCID.
So to earn money for my lavish lifestyle I am a freelance graphic designer. Might as well use that degree for something, right? Also I design and make Polynesian dance costumes. Need a Poly costume? I'm your girl!

Medical student by day and night, weekend and weekday, summer, spring, and fall. Medical school pervades my every waking (and sleeping) moment. There are always more nitpicky facts to learn, more exams ahead, and higher and higher stakes (today, my grades, tomorrow, my career, and the next day, someone's life). And yet as much as I hate it...I love it and wouldn't trade it for the world.

However, sometimes on the weekends when it's not f'ing raining (which it is ALWAYS doing here), I can, for a brief, but heavenly few hours, be a fire spinner.

Fire keeps me whole.

What is your take on this? Are you your occupation?

i was dividing my time between fire dancer and carpenter/welder for a long time, about 6 years. got paid lots of money as a carpenter, so i amassed a good amount of circus necessities, such as stage lights, puppet making supplies, schoolbus, etc. about 2 years ago poi started getting real popular, and i could just dance with fire as an odd job thing, and i was able to start really phasing out carpentry... now i'm a full time all ages circus performer/puppetteer/storywriter... but don't get me wrong, i'm totally broke... but blessed nonetheless.
now i am able to start putting more energy into my long term job, which will be to set up the circus as a non profit, with intentions on preserving the rainforests through education in the fire shows, which are fairy tales about nature and tribal wisdom, and by using profits to preserve rainforest land. unfortunately we are horrible with paperwork, and too consumed by practicing and stretching and sewing and meachanics and fire toy making and carting all this equipment around<whew> to deal with all the forms. so we just do the circus and someday we'll meet that business minded person...
also lately we've been trying to set up a kid's day care/summer camp for the fairy arts/circus arts, with hopes that it could be used as an education/outreach for underpriveledged as well... but again with the paperwork...

The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer-- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.-- Ken Kesey

Posted:I actually finish my job this week. But, since September I've been a counselor, working the graveryard shift in rehab center full of homeless people, ex-convicts, hookers, and all the other fun people. In the fall I go back to being a student (studying how to help homeless people, ex-convicts, hookers and other fun people, with a little dance on the side for sanity).

Marlboro, I have a friend from the U.K. that is a diving instructor in Malta right now. If you want me to find anything out for you, let me know here or e-mail me. Could see if there's an opening there or any tips on getting work doing that..
