Generally, yes smile

Different types and sizes of wicks have different weights too, and all weigh more once they are soaked in fuel. All of the fire poi in the shop here give weights for the equipment (before soaking), so you can look there, and could weigh your tennis ball poi to give you a better idea of the comparative weights:)

well if u think of it, a tenis ball is hallow, fire poi are kevlar wrapped arround a piece of metal that keeps its shape and holds it on there. And like he said, once u add the fuel, it gets alot heavier.
I suggest you take your tenis ball poi, cut open a slit, and add rice, this should help you practice with the weight change

i generally practice with weighted poi 2x heavier than my fire poi... it builds strength and sharpens movement...

practice with weighted poi 2ce as much as with normal, you still need to practice with the lighter version before lighting up or performing.

with alot of practice the lighter poi become almost a 'non-entity' from a weight perspective. This means that your movement while dancing is more delecate, more precise, more fluid and not physically draining!

you should defo practice with something the same weight as your fire ones - when ever i use lighter fire poi i find them loads too erratic, and i dont have nearly as much control over them than i do my heavier cathedral fire poi..
it is nice to not have to put so much effort into the spinning tho.. smile
