A quick search turned up nothing...

at 8 AM some offshore telemarketer called me, waking me up begging for money. It's now 9:47. And I haven't slept more than 45 minutes at a stretch since Sunday.

So, umm, anyone got a good cure for insomnia that doesn't involve booze, drugs, or puns on ones "dogs" being tired?

Socks

Edit add : 9:53 AM, and ANOTHER telemarketer called. Answered the phone "You have 20 seconds to improve my mood." They didn't even talk to me, they hung up. Cranky puppies have no humor on the phone....

I'm weird. Just work through that and we'll all be fine.

Just lay in bed and reflect on the fact that doing so is almost as restful as actually being asleep. Don't get frustrated by being unable to nod off.

For actually getting to sleep, it can be useful to encourage any mental processes that are dream-like i.e. follow any wierd little fantasy things that pop into your head with the bit of your mind that fits with them, whilst leaving the intellectual bits of the mind behind.

I have had a very similar problem although mine is also not resting when I do sleep, and waking up exhausted. Most of the time I have had very lucid dreams about people I know in what seem to be normal everyday life...
What my mother taught me to do as I am going to sleep is to visualise yourself being anchored to the ground. Visualise a line running from the front of your sternum and through your body, stright through the bed and to the ground. This works extreamly well for me and I have had the most restfull sleep in many years.
A further development on this, which I find to be much stronger, is to use the image of a tree rather than a line or rope. I visualise myself within the tree and the roots going far down into the ground and therefore 'anchoring' my mind while my body rests.

Not sure if this will help for you but it is certainly worth a try. smile
Best of luck. -G

You don't need a missus.

Besides, when it's purely functional, it doesn't need to be mind-blowing. Just needs to release the relevant hormones and relax the mind.

Not that I'd know.

Gotta agree with that idea. Everytime I smoke weed I can sleep like a baby that night.

He also didn't want anything about his dog's being tired? Or am I the only one who took that the wrong way again?

I was just saying what works for me.

If you really get into it, tea would be a drug as well -.- as well as alot of what's been suggested, as they all release different chemicals in your body, which is what drugs do.

In either case, meditation is a good one...

I think I should just shut my mouth on these boards everytime I say something it is taken the wrong way.

I myself sometimes do that sort of thing to help me sleep so I don't have a problem with it but I figured seeing as it was stated that he didn't want booze or drugs that we might be able to discuss other options like some of the ones already brought up.

Forget it....I am tired and everything I say is always taken the wrong way.

Medusa, there will always be someone who takes things the wrong way, it's always gonna happen. Plus it's 2am and I'm sleepy to, so it's understandable. I know what're you're talking about though. I'm still trying to give proper ideas like the ones he's looking for, but when I quoted that I hadn't though of any, needed time to roll it around in my mind.

Oh, another good idea might be working out or something of the sort? Do a bit of a run or some fresh air?

Well, it's now 1:30 AM or so, and I'm still up.

I'm thinking of collapsing tho, seeing if that'll work.

Lemme see, tried most of the stuff menitoned, I'm hoping that pure exhaustion will do the trick.

I'm weird. Just work through that and we'll all be fine.

With our family routine is important. Same time bed, same routine, same bed time music.
As adults we dont always tend to do that though.

technically anything is a drug - all a drug is is something (normally a chemical) that changes how your body works :P
so in its broadest view even food is a drug (hell chocolate is a drug in a much narrower view as it releases endorphins)

go with exhaustion works best every time :P
