Howdy all,

i'm thinking of making my own staff with two wicks on each end (like the poi). i started thinking about this, and i know it would look cool but i don't know how i would get the fuel on the inside wick without pouring it on (but that wastes a bit). The only thing i could think of is using citronella/shellite mix, that burns quite well without having to dunk.

any thoughts?

pour it on over a big dipping bucket, meaning all the run off goes back into a fuel ducket

or get a long dipping tube, and use taht so taht both wicks are covered?

easiest way

long piece of guttering tube

get a cap for the end from the guttering section, and seal it on with glue, or screw it on

yay for double wicked stix! I am half way through making a set of dual staves like that, The first set of the wicks are 6 inch ones and the second are 3 inches. All in all, lots of fire (and on short 90cm stix... will be specky!)

Happy wicking to you! Weeeeeeeee! new toys! ubbrollsmile

I just finished converting my staff to a two wick staff. It's great, but a carries a little more weight then I thought it would. Good for speed.

there's another problem with double wicked staves: they can be almost impossible to extinguish. if you extinguish one wick, the other relights it, and vice versa. so expect to have to spin them out

to blow out the wicks, it's common sense to blow out the lower wicking first so that it doesn't re-ignite the upper wicking!!

this is what mines looks like:

or just use a rag and starve both wicks of air

i confess i rarely manage to extinguish both wicks by blowing even when I start from the lower wick; maybe my wicks are hotter/bigger when i try to do this. i think it's because the cloud of paraffin vapour coming off the lower extinguished wick is sizeable and hot; when the top of this vapour ignites, the bottom does as well.

rags are sensible, but less stylish and often unavailable. i know, i know - sometimes i'm badly prepared . . .

Long steel tube sealed at one end, internal diameter just larger than the wick surface, deep enought to smother upto four heads.

Bender did you buy a concentrate staff and make it Duel wick or can you Oz folks get them down there?

Quiet if you cant find a rag the top you wear will do(Or it does for me) just grabb the end quickly and starve it, its good as you look both brave and stupid at the same time!

i stalked the makers (in Melb) and had it re wicked for me, with extra. They're not cheap staves, but the additional wicking didn't cost much extra, it's just the hassle of hassling em.

it's the only single staff i've got! I'm a doubles boy through and thru!
