Ok, so im thinking about learning fire breathing. Im still looking into it reading up and things. Anyway, i just had a horrible thought. Can you fire breath with a tongue bar?? Also, fire eating is that pos with a bar in my mouth?
If not then i should stop thinking about starting.

Read the Fire Breathing information before you go on any further, after you have read that link, read the rest of this thread.

Ok, after reading that, you should have a basic idea of what can happen to even the best performers. Fire Breathing is the MOST deadly of any fire art. Please try and find a professional in your area to go through everything with you rather than learning it on your own from an online guide. While Pele's guide is extensive and incredibly helpful, it is no substitute for a human teacher, and I'm sure she'd agree. Take no chances with your life mate.

As for your question, breathing with a tongue bar should not be a problem as long as it doesn't hinder your aspirating technique. As well, for fire eating, try not to touch it to the metal as it may be more likely to burn you. Good fire eating technique uses a heavily salviated tongue, with a metal bar in your mouth, it would be easier to heat up rapidly when the torch enters your mouth and could cause uncomfortable heat all the way through your tongue or even burn you (or worse, get caught on the torch!).
There is even more of a chance for the above mentioned problems if you start getting into more advanced tricks (holding the torch with your teeth before extinguishing etc...)
Please excercise a liberal amount of caution with any fire art, and more so with fire eating, and even more with Fire Breathing. People have died from it mate.

Immortalangel and Pyromonkey - Thankyou for that. i had read the fire breathing info before hand smile Im still considering whether to try fire breathing. I have a friend who does it but i dont know if he would be willing to help me learn if i were to decide to do it. But im still no where near finished in researching it yet. smile

I think if i decide to do fire eating i`ll take my bar out because the idea of having a burning hot bar through my tongue doesnt sound appealing. Fankoos. hug

it makes no difference fire breathing with or with out a tongue bar... not as far as technique goes.

Health wise... more of a direct route to your blood stream for the toxins in the fuel and you have a wound in the tissue of your tongue... no piercing heals fully!... believe me i know.

the other hazards are that more than likly it will rot your teeth and gums and the signs of that will not show till long after you have been doing it for some time.

Fire eating is possible witha tongue bar, as it is the techniques that you will learn that will enable you to work with one rather than taking it out... who wants carbon and dust particles going into a hole in their tongue, not getting cleaned out and then suffering god knows what else.

hope that that helps some what.

Thankyou vewy much PK.
Im a little hessitant because of the teeth rotting thing. Im trying to figure out preventative measures for oral problems. Im going to ask when i take a trip to my dentist.

Ive also found that there are retainers i can wear in my tongue. So i dont have to have metal in my mouth which would conduct the heat much more easily.
Hmm im going to go back and re read eveything now hehe.

If you're worried about oral problems, make sure you brush and rinse with some sort of oral wash (listerene?) after you blow or eat and you shouldn't have any problems. The problem comes from having it in your mouth alot, often and for long periods of time Ie, going to a club, breathing/eating, then clubbing for the next few hours, not brushing when you get home and pass out, and only getting around to brushing the next morning, or maybe even later.

Hehe well seeing as i drive mostly everywhere i dont think drinking and passing out will be a problem so i shouldn`t forget. smile
While i had my brace fitted my dentist gave me this pink stuff, I think it was the stuff they use in their sugeries, Some kind of flouride mouthwash supposed to help enamel. So im going to ask my dentist if i can get some of that over the counter anywhere. If anything just to make me THINK im helping myself a bit.

I've just printed out about 12 pages of backround info for me to read up on (not including all the medical stuffs i looked up) and bought a book to inform me some more. I've also found out that one of my old teachers does fire breathing so i think i'll approach him and ask him some questions.
As for my tongue, I've decided a retainer would be stupid as it might melt (plastic). So the choices are a flat tongue bar or no tongue bar. I havent made up my mind yet.
I think im moving towards a decision but im still going over implications of breathing/eating and everything ive read with a fine tooth comb.
hug Everyone. Fankoos.

............*glares at the idiot(s)...you know who u are...personally i dont think itd be a good idea at all....that and peircings in your mouth will cause you to salivate more....which in turn lessons the size and duration of each blow..so yeah...

Well i think i get an allergic reaction to paraffin on my skin. I had some on my hand and it itches loads. So thats blown that idea, im not up for eczma on my face bad enough on my arms.

House of mill, how did you [censored] up your gums doing poi????
Scruffy - i dunno why it wouldnt work, thats why i asked smile
DP - thanks i see where your coming from with the salivating. However when it comes to fire eating i think it would be better to salivate more *shrugs*
Either way it doesnt matter now frown I still may learn fire eating to ease my curiosity. I figure if i learn the technique and try it to figure out what the drawbacks are, ill be less likely to do something stupid because im too eager.
