I was just going to PM this to Coleman but I figured I'd share it with the group. Careful, it plays right when you click (so not so good if you're at a quiet work.)

Not his best performance but pretty cool to bounce to on a Friday afternoon.

Enjoy Kenny Muhammad.

{Way better than Rahzel}

Well, shall we go?

Thanks for sharing that NYC. I *love* the symphonic twist on it. It was fabulous and I wish I could have seen it in person.

My favorite is Mike from the Boston based acapella group Ball in the House.

I have never-ever heard anything like him. He has won international competitions. He does the whole nose harp thing as well, so on their cd it is the most amazing thing to know there are no instruments, even when you hear them all.

I am always in awe of people with this talent.

Thanks again smile

I've seen someone do it live...it's incredible.
Not anything to that degree, but I was at my brother's band's garage show type thing with 2 other bands. One of the guys invited was an incredible beat boxer...then again, anyone who is good at it is incredible in my books.
It's really something else.

I saw Mike from Ball in the House do a 4 1/2 minute drum solo live once. I was slackjawed the rest of the night from awe.

I've never tried it but I imagine if I did, I would need a bib and a *very* absorbant towel! wink

Um...

1) Rahzel is overrated.
2) That is NOT Rahzel. That is some talented skinny white guy doing a Rahzel cover.
3) THIS is Rahzel.

badass - cheers nyc smile

a few extra bits:

- imo, rahzel isn't overrated, he's over exposed. its fair though seeing as he was at the forefront of bringing beatboxing back and pushing it way forward (i saw rahzel do 'if your mother...' on stage with the roots back in '97).

- kenny muhammad hung around sh!tloads with rah and is even on his album (they join forces and battle against two djs on one of the bonus tracks).

- kela is the shits and is also a really nice bloke. the first time i met him he did 'farmyard jungle' which is just about as british as you can get.

- DOUG E FRESH (cos a thread like this without his name in it is a crime).

I guess I only say Rahzel's overrated because he's the ONLY name ever thrown out there. Maybe I'm in the wrong circles.

Overhyped?

I think he's good. Just not SO much better than EVERYONE else.

And yes, Doug E Fresh is, was, and always will be the man. (See, I'd be more comfortable with HIM being "THE Human Beatboxer" rather than Rahzel.)

Except for the fact that EVERYWHERE I go in New York, I see Doug E Fresh.

(Now you got "The Show" stuck in my head.) biggrin

rahzel is 'the godfather of noise' and kenny mohammed is 'the human orchestra'.
i though doug e was 'THE human beatbox'.

when i first saw rahzel do the singing and beatboxing thing, a whole venue's worth of peoples jaws hit the floor.
he was fresh and super talented.

i didn't know about kenny mohammed until rahzel's album came out in 1999 but that unawareness of him could well just be because i live about 600 miles away from where he plied his trade.

i wanna bump into doug e fresh everywhere i go frown

every six minutes would be about right i reckon... wink

Q:What's the difference between the Great Highland Bagpipes and the Northumbrian Pipes?
A:The Great Highland Pipes burn longer.
