We have a how old are you now thread.
We have a what type of education do you have thread.
We have a what level of education do you have poll.
But no one has really looked into the How old were you when you first started juggling/spinning/staff/unicycling/balloon sculpting thread.

So here it is.
I have noticed alot of people have started when they were reaching their late teens or early 20s...Possibly something to do with the level of maturity at that age? Or just the fact that you can drive, drink (hopefully not both at once), and have nothing else to do? Or that maybe it's more popular with that age group more than any other?
I started getting into it when I was about 15, but it wasn't 16 that I really started learning or practicing anything.

i was 19 when i first saw firepoi dancing at woodford folk festival. first time i saw it i was entranced. the next day i went in search of some firepoi. got talked into buying a staff but did not use it. made myself some practice poi for the next few months till i made some fire ones.
started using single staff and then double staff about 10 months after i first started with poi. got into fire fans about a year ago and am now practicing hula hooping so i can use a fire hoop.
i am 23 now and love anything fiery.

Fifteen weeks ago. Was 24 at the time, a bit of a late developer I guess.
Was an odd and unheard of present from my little sister.
Tails at first, fire after 2-3 weeks, never leave home without them now. Stitched a special loop inside my coat to hold my poi so I can play while waiting for the bus and stuff. Odd how it took over my life so quickly...

i started when i was 19, now im 20. a true veteran i think not but i also noticed how it seems to take up vast amounts of time when im bored, and even time when im supposed to be doing my coursework, or cooking, or eating, or sleeping, or going to uni.

I first saw poi spinning last St patricks day. i picked them up for the first time that very night. i got my own about a week later.Have spun almost constantly since then.
Broke my first light bulb last week. I'm not allowed to spin inside any more, but my poi are looking kinda lonely, so i think i might do some now....

p.s. don't tell my mum!

Have been doing the poi thing for about 3 years now. So it just so happened I saw poi at festival 3 years ago in Johannesburg South Africa. After being mesmirised for the whole evening by the group hypnotising me with the rings of fire I though " I have to learn how to do it" Well the rest is history. The only thing I did not see , was the amount of pain and bruising during the learning problem. Nothing like being curled up in a ball on the floor with tears in your eyes with the dog looking at you like you are crazy. However every hit worth it, glad I waited until now to buy the beaming balls.

Well I started doing it occasionally on the weekends. Then a weekend couldnt go by that I was doing burn offs in the backyard. After that I had to do it everyday.. The next thing you know Im calling in work, cant afford to hang out with friends, I just skrip some change to get some juice.. I was a wreck, I would only go out if I knew there would be some kero, I lost all my hair, and I smelled like charred putuli oil.

Ive been sober now for a few months just until my hair starts to come back, Ive got a girlfriend and shes got me stictly on an LED diet. The last time I smelled kero they found me two weeks later at a rainbow festival and I didnt have any clothes. Youve gotta be carefull when you start, cause you can never stop....

I started it this year (24).

I did play with a mates fire staff a few years back, but not seriously, because it was on fire and I was gutless. Understandably so I reckon.
