I hate to admit this, but some of us (me) have never seen a COL. So I have a question that I hope you people can answer for me.

With the video submission, if we have music we have to have it authorized by the musician to make sure that we don't get sued and all of that other legal mumbo jumbo. That's understandable, not getting sued is a good idea. However, my question is, if a person turns in a video with no music does Malcom put in music or is their video simply muted?

As a total beginner, I have the COL2 & 5, and they're fantastic. A great way to learn, be inspired, etc. And I like having a few non-poi arts sprinkled through it - in case we're not familiar with other stuff going on. But I agree that it makes sense to keep the focus on poi in the "Home of Poi" videos. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but I don't recall much glowstick/ball/lights stuff, which I would very much like to see.

I know it's difficult to get legal clearances for music, but my one suggestion would be to either require people to submit with music, or give them choices - like here are the 10 tracks we have, you must use one - because when the routine doesn't fit the music, it's distracting and/or irritating.

Really glad you're going to do another one! clap (I always misremember the name as Carnival of Light, anyway, so I'm okay with changing the name.)

I'm sorry, I would feel totally awkward sending in glowstick/glowstringing footage to CoL. It feels like a whole different scene and group of people.

I will however, most probably be sending in some fire footage - just because I love it.

To do: More Firedrums 08 video?

Wildfire/US East coast fire footage

LA/EDC glow/fire footage

Fresno fire

mmm I think Kael should send in some glowstringing stuff as I reckon many fireys out there could learn from it. Perhaps put a couple of minutes on the end of your fire section?

i think glowstringing is a hell of a lot more applicable than juggling and making balloon animals.

I wanna see Kael's glowstringing! It is almost poi! it is spinning! it is happy lights!

i think if spherculist can spin a staff for four minutes without making any circles then he should still be allowed to enter. everyone should stop being so damn shapist.

i think "circles of light" refers to the dots of colour that appear in front of your eyes when you hit yourself in the head with your chosen prop. i have achieved these "circles of light" with pretty much all the toys we've been discussing (both lit and unlit), so i think you can probably enter with any of them.

haha, i can't spin staff at all, well, you know. Poi wibbling isn't very circular tho. MAinly playing 2diablo at the moment tho, no lights at all cos they are supidly expensive and make your diabli even heavier.... so i guess no entry.

I think there should be a $1 USD entry fee, or something like that. Then, everyone who submitted, whether or not they were accepted can vote and the winner can get a HoP gift certificate in the amount of however many submissions. That way the people who get to vote are the ones who contributed, which is fair, and I do not know ANYONE who would go through the trouble and expense of making an entry and not being able to drop 1 extra dollar. For all those folks in England it less than a pound! That way there can be a competetive spirit, and a prize, and still not be a fiscal downfall for Malcolm.

I am not sure on the policy on multiple submissions, but anyone submitting multiple entries would pay for eac submission, but only get one vote.

What does everyone else think? I think this is a good compromise, and I knwo that I wouldnt mind sending an extra buck in with a submission, I cant imagine anyone would...

I guess COL has different meaning to many of you.

To me it means...

Circles = type of motion with a pivot point & groups

Light = Inspiration & so we can see you & gathering point

That's a really nice way to look at it smile

I finished my entry off yesterday; it's got plenty of non-fire poi, as well as some fire ropes, a bit of fire-club juggling and the soundtrack is me on my home-made flute.

Once again, editing time has been a bit limited, but I'm happier with the final product than I was with last years.
