The death of Gonzo journalism?
ABC News article

This is important to me as the ethos rings true. The idea that a journalist cannot be a dispassionate onlooker but must step in and immerse. That to do anything less is timid, and untrue.

I admired the boots and all approach. I admired the intelligence. And I laughed my head off at the dark humour.

And I loved the way that it was fully, and I mean fully, acknowledged that the journalist was an actor in the story, with opinions and ideas influencing the events and the presentation of them.

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

What this calls for is a special mix of psychology and extreme violence...

Our whole valley is weirded out, he's our neighbor! He had this big metal ranch-gate with huge birds that had glowing red eyes at night...He even ran for Mayor of Aspen, years ago. In one way, I'm a little surprised that one who took so many chances and pushed so many boundaries lived as long as he did! He was always shooting at neighbors' dogs and trespassers, as much as I don't totally agree with that, we now have one less eccentric in our midst to balance out the rich hum-vee drivin', fur-wearin', poodle-dying elite who don't really live here anyway. What night shall we all watch Fear and Loathing in memoriam?

take the schneak-tip
