I can't really talk for either though, I'm Canadian, and all we have is alot of snow...and 0 scene for spinning.

The question is, how will this spirit of egalitarian tolerance and freedom of religious, political and cultural thought correlate with some of the religious and political problems which face some European countries? For example, what will this ruling make of the French government's banning of public wearing of religious symbols in the interests of upholding the state secularity started with Napoleon? Though this affects all religions equally, it could still potentially be seen as violating the aforementioned clause.
And how about the (I think it is German, please correct me if I am wrong) law that makes denying the Holocaust illegal? A historian was recently sued successfully on this very law, which could be seen as an indictment of certain political views. I'm not saying I support any of these opinions, but I just propose them as potential problems facing the new constitution.

Yes, And all that's jazz, it is a German law that forbids that. We also forbid wearing of fascist symbols and possession of Hitler-memorabilia, something Britain was considering for about half an hour after Prince Harry's party appearance last month.
It's a nice bit of constitution, but even if it gets passed I can't see some of it happening, like countries with a very religious orientation allowing gay marriage, or equal payment for men and women in all job sectors in all countries (stops rant now cause there'll be so many more things that won't happen that I wouldn't get myself to start working today if I listed them all).
But yeah, it's a good plan and at least gives people the legal background to take action against discrimination, and even if it's going to take years and years to get some of it to work (if that'll happen at all) it's better than not trying...

And at least we don't write discrimination into our laws like many countries do.
The French law is interesting as it's arguably not discrimination - it's aim is to work towards true integration, tolerance and equality between all. A very brave move and one I'm interesting in seeing the long term outcome.
Oh, and we have better food, some of which is actually illegal in the US!

actually, I have to disagree on the food thing - but it depends on where in the US and what type...
I will agree that chinese food is generally better in europe.
japanese and mexican food are far superior in the USA.
indian and thai are about the same.
and Pizza - european pizza sucks - though you can get an exceptable one in some places. and I am talking real pizza - not that fast food dominoes or pizza hut crap. and yes I know Italy is supposed to have the best pizza on earth, but you know what, that is just plain wrong.
fresh produce is usually better in the states too, though europe can come close during the late summer months. Neith place can hold a candle to fine quality and very cheap fruit juices of south africa though.
What is so completely better in europe it isn't even funny is public transit. American mass tranit sucks totally.

yeah, there are some exceptions to the mass transit rule, but you know what, NY public transit is good, probably the best in the states, but Berlin public transit is just so uber sweet that I am not even going to compare - all I will say is the Germans are very efficient people!

Then next thing you know, there's "a tree on the tracks" and you simply have to take "another bus" which leads you to the next bus... thus making your 30min. train ride home 2 hours longer. No, I'm not bitter about the time that happened to me...
And I read a book about Germany, and it said you can set your clock by the train times - not so. At least for me. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT SNOWS!!!!
No, really though, the transportation here is AMAZING. A few busses I've been on have plasma screen monitors with a little automated map-type thing that tells you where you are, where you're going, and the next 5 stops or so. And the little automated voice that comes on after the little 'ding!' and tells you the next stop. It pleases me greatly
Although trainstations CAN be really hectic.
One thing against europe (at least here): they definately need some skills on snow removal!!! Why is snow such a big problem?? I was laying down in the snow at school one day with my friends around me telling me how insane I was, and 2 teachers came to see if something happened, because I was laying down in the snow. Like it was forbidden....
Europe is better on the whole I'd say... But politics are still pretty corrupt (among other things....*coughsoccercough*) The culture seems more alive (or just different than what I'm used to)
As for the girls, I find them to be more trend-following, heavy make-up wearing, wenttothetanningsalon100timestoomany than in North America. There's actually more variety amung the guys from what I see. But the punk cultre is bigger here, definately, I'd say. And there's more to do for teenagers.

Not every country is used to Canadian amounts of snow... if you want to see realy chaos with snow go to the UK though, when I was there for an interview last year half of the schools were closed down for a layer of snow Germany would've laughed at But then, it's Remscheid, I'm from the south where there's more snow usually

Not all of Canada gets a lot of snow!!! But my city (Halifax, NS) got... around 100cm in 8 days last month, so who am I to say...
We've got a little dusting here
20cm or something I think. But I don't measure in cm, really... in my mind it's: toes, ankels, knees, hips... I like the snow around the knees and a bit higher, where you can flop down in it, thus making a snowchair perfectly molded to your body... very comfy!! (In remscheid we're around ankle-depth)
Although, my boyfriend lives in Karlsrhue, and there is no snow there, which makes him really quite sad!!
The way I look at it, corruption is corruption. It's not working right. Some governments might be worse, true, but the corruption is still there!
Oh, but I forgot to add this at the end of my other post: I like Europe.

And I'm planning a trip to Holland in May, actually. Doing a lot of European travelling this year... Leave for skiing Thurs. Best part - sleep in Austria, ski 10min. bus drive away in Italy How cool!
Europe is good also because:
-everything is close
-people actually go on REAL vacations (not take a week vacation, and spend it at home either working for work, or cleaning the house)
- most countries are in the EU, and most countries in the EU all have the Euro, which makes travelling easier.
-lower drinking age (at least here)

Then next thing you know, there's "a tree on the tracks" and you simply have to take "another bus" which leads you to the next bus... thus making your 30min. train ride home 2 hours longer. No, I'm not bitter about the time that happened to me...
actually Berlin has no problems dealing with the snow, and I do in fact set my watch by the trains!

that's because most of europe watches american movies and hears american accents all the time. Normal American's only hear chinese, mexican/south american, middle eastern, and indian accents very much on a regualar basis...

absolutely correct on the vacation thing - I get 30 days a year vacation here - the same job in the states would give me 10.
But please note that most states use the dollar ( ) and this covers a much bigger travelling area (though you will not be travelling to any castles!), so the euro thing isn't really an advantage, especially given the hold outs like the UK, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway (bastards...). Them having the euro means it is just no longer a COMPLETE pain in the rear travelling around europe more than it is so much an advantage over the US.
But the real advantage of the euro is that it is quite strong against the dollar right now - making paying of my student loans 30% easier for the time being!!!

Europe is good also because:
-people actually go on REAL vacations (not take a week vacation, and spend it at home either working for work, or cleaning the house)
- most countries are in the EU, and most countries in the EU all have the Euro, which makes travelling easier.

I think you're wrong there, at least Germany has American movies dubbed so we're not that used to the accent. Maybe from music on the radio, but apart from that, no...
But actually I was saying that most Europeans speak English (or Russian if they were in school during the cold war) to some degree, and lots of European countries aim at teaching students at least 2 foreign languages, which I do think is a big advantage. Yes, most Americans and Brits get along well in the rest of Europe because everyone speaks their language, but still... being able to speak foreign languages is cool, and people are much nicer in lots of countries when you actually try ordering your food / buying your stamps etc in their language!
Understanding foreigners speaking your own language is not what I meant Americans usually don't have a problem understanding me when I speak English.
