OK, I thought about something the other day and have spent a good few hours doing a Durbs and checking through previous threads.
I noticed alot of people worry about what clothing they wear and how fire proof it is etc...
I've always worn 2 things when I perform. Either a nice cotton hoody with hood up to protect my hair, or go for a dip in my pool (or the very least wet my hair to keep it under controll) then spin with as little clothing on as I can (mostly just a pair of shorts).
I guess I was thinking about it because for the first time ever I managed to mess up a wrap while doing fire without clothing on. I didn't get burned at all, but I made a nicely sized cut in my arm. I doubt it would have been as bad if I had been wearing a hoody, maybe just a small cut and a torn arm in the shirt.
I read in another thread that Pele also does arm wraps with out sleeves (correct me if I'm wrong...), and so do a number of other people.

I think the possibility for steam burns while wearing less clothing would be greatly reduced, but please don't take my word on that. Perhaps someone would correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking.

I know some people perform with costumes etc... inwhich case there is no real option for clothing except for choice of material, but I have seen some 'traditional' Samoan fire knife dancers wearing only a banana leaf skirt, anklets etc...dancing away (pretty good actually, it was at the Polynesian resort's Luao in Disney World) with out problems.

I guess I was wondering what the rest of the poi world thought of not using clothing?

could you post pics if you were nude? or would that be against the rules?

Hey all,
I don't usually post but as i have a little experience in this field i will. I got some quite nasty burns from hot components. Quick links, although virtually indestructible, heat up very hot and leave a very savage burn. Also the poi i use (solaris poi from bearclaw manufacturing) have really big wicks so the wick heats enough to cause a burn. Consequently i have some lovely patterned burn marks!
I reckon a tight long sleeved cotton shirt is the best bet as provides a bit of protection and (sort of) shows off our fine firetwirling bods!
Either that or stop doing wraps.... but who wants to do that?

I generally wear a top when it's cold, but i always start with poi so i get nice and warmed up, then i take my top off to do staff as you can get better contact with skin. I do do wraps against skin, and only burn myself occasionally. Burns look cool anyway. biggrin

I'll bring the UV cannon...
I've got lots of UV body paint too, was going to try for a full top-half painting session. There are some amazing full body painting examples on t'interweb - one I found was entirely UV, can't remember what or who it was, but I was searching for UV body paints and it came up (honest)

Falmouth should be interesting wink

i'd love to get most of my kit off and get all painted up. some things would have to stay a mystery though. no dangling for me either.

How can you think about getting painted all UV - and not think about it being naked? (or close to it - I will allow speedos for men and thongs for girls if they prefer.............)

It seems logical to me.

I need an airbrush....................... and an artistic friend. haha Blue don't you even dare lowering the tone any more spank

You might also want to check out Krylon "day-glo" paints which are lovely, water-based (i,e, wash off easy) and fairly cheap.

Or maybe these
Depends how much you're after...
