sorry for reflecting a bad ish mood on this, but Chinese New Year has in some ways become a sham over here in manchester.
during my time at my primary school, my best friend up until the second to last year, was Chinese, but then he moved away. i used to go with him on Chinese new year, every year, to his parents restaurant, and we'd have a great time, and you'd only see one or two non-Oriental people there, and there would be fire crackers on the corner of each building and a HUGE parade down most of the streets in manchesters china town.
but over the last two years that i went with him, and when i went last year to see the parade, there was an entire switch over. there was only a few Oriental people, and most of them were the owners of shops and restaurants, and the people actually in the parade. and there were very little firecrackers that i could see.
i just feel that its sad that such a great time in the Chinese year is in some ways ruined by the "acceptance" of this country

Happy chinese new year friends.
I am an ox. so is a friend of mine. she has the character for it tattoo'd on her back.
Only problem is she used the japanese character for it not the chinese.
so it can be interpreted as "cow" in japanese
And also can be read as "beef" in chinese.
I shouldnt laugh but.... she shoudlve used the chinese character

my brother is a dog i think, and mum & dad are dragons. they're born in different years and mum thinks she's a rabbit - i don't know how many times i've explained to her that chinese new year is around feb 9! so that makes her the same year as dad! and therefore, also a dragon! sheesh!! happy new year poiples!!

Yep, I'm a rooster.
I was reading in the paper that this year is predicted to be:
Prone to earthquakes (especially around the Pacific rim of fire)
Full of high winds and typhoons
Not so good for marriage or having a baby
BUT, due to a dominant 4th star (hey, I don't understand it either, I'm just passing on what I read), it's supposed to be full of lust thus much er, ah, shall we say "intimate moments" (geeze, how PC is that?). Ah, could be a very good year after all
