Where did you first pick up the poi???

me, i started in a place called Seaflower, Ao Si Kong beach in west Kao Pan Ngan cool

The huts there are lovely, the resturant and food and owners are great and the beach is nice and chilled.... the sunsets are the most amazing i have seen anywhaere in my 2 year travels of asia and oz... it is a fantastic place to learn poi, you can go to had rin via 2 taxis and party all night and chill out when you get back in you hammock... aww i miss it..

hmmm...its not uncommon to read an intro that says that they started after a trip to thailand, so surely you're not the only one.

On Florence Moore field at Stanford. I'd been flagging for a bit, but someone handed me some glowsticks on strings (technically they count as poi, right? Weights on strings?) and I did a two-beat weave.

devkev, who showed you poi at the Seaflower?

And was there a crazy happy friendly german drug sharing guy there too? And a Thai man with a Canadian woman? A party at the waterfall?

Hmmn... memories...

Still can't really do much more than v. basic poi. but can juggle a leetle.. juggle

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

Yes, Koh Phangan, March 2003. It is the best place imaginable to learn poi. Very inspiring...

i prolly shouldnt say this, coz i now know how stupid it was...

the firest time i picked up a set of poi was at my home... they belonged to one of my brothers friends, he, stevo & stevo's brother has started playing with them a short time before! They were on fire!

Fortunately i picked it up real quickly and was doing a 4bt weave, corkscrew and butterfly by the end of the evening!

Went to the hardware store the next day and bought all the stuff to make my own pair and made them the following w-end. I didnt touch them for about a week, then i (studip) bought some paraffin dunked them and i have never looked baq! I did nt even own a set of practice poi till about 3 months after i started!

I spose i was lucky, nothing bad ever happened!
