My Stainless steel chain arrived from HOP today.

But i dont have the necessary equipment to cut them down to size so i cant finish my custom Poi. frown i have all my pieces now too so i really want to build them.

Does anyone know the best way to cut the chain links?

anything that will cut the metal will do, a metal work saw, a metal work file, a high pressure cutter, , or if you are good enough, you could use harsh language wink

here is a way to do it if you have a happer and flathead screwdriver:

place the link you want to cut on a place where each adjacent ball is supported with a gap between (I used a pair of pliers with the mouth opened slightly). place the flathead screwdriver on the link you want to break like a chisle, and give it a good whack with the hammer. should go in one or two blows. just make sure the scewdriver handle is shatter proof. Alternitively you could go spend 10 euros at the hardware store for a proper pair of wire cutters - just be sure the balls can fit on each side of the cutting surface.

wire cutters

Never got those to work on my chains. In fact, I busted 2 pairs trying to do it.

What a wonderful miracle if only we could look through each other's eyes for an instant.

I wonder what were they made of?

Suggest u get bigger wire cutters, or go for bolt cutters.

I use side cutters (like for elect wire) and have had no probs. Not good for the cutters though wink

This probably wont work for ball chain, as you need room. But you can cut wire without cutters by using a file to cut into the wire a bit, then break the wire by bending back and foward.

Thanks guys. i got some bolt cutters then some plyers onto them.

Now my new custom poi are done, and they are mighty sexy.

Heres the specs

Cathedral fire heads with an extra long custom oval mallion to seperate it from the chain.

Stainless steel chain.

Home of poi mallions and torpedo swivels with custom locally made leather handles.

These poi are nice and heavy so they have great momentum and fantastic for building my arm muscles which is really need to do.

oohhhh... just feel them

er... if you are using ballchain, you don't actually need the swivels - every link of ballchain is a swivel in fact (ah, the multifacted beauty of ballchain... *le sigh* )

in teroy is now your swivel the weak spot in the constrauct?

the chain will be strong and fine, but the joint to the swivel will be the most stressed points?

if it is one of the high quality swivels from HoP, then it can handle more than ballchain can probably[/], at least until heat is applied (brass doesn't stand up so well as stainless steel to being heated!). the inclusion of the swivel on ballchain does add unessisary connections though - and connections are ALWAYS a weak point - the fewer the better.

also i dont have to worry about the swivel getting heated problem.

I designed my poi different to the HoP chain poi. on the HoP chain poi the swivel is at the bottom seperated from the fire head with one mallion and then another mallion connecting it to the chain.
as seen on link below
https://www.homeofpoi.com/shop/productDet...l_link_fire_poi

On my poi they swivel is at the top near the handle. therefore escaping the design flaw

and as sexual as they sound, sorry vanize, i just dont trust ballchain

Hiya DoktorSkell, you didn't say you were using ballchain, but you did say your stainless steel chain had arrived from Home of Poi, and when I checed the shop, the only stainless steel chain I can find is.......ballchain.

The link chain is not stainless,,,it's nickle plated steel.

I haven't had swivels on my poi for well over a year, and I don't miss them. My chains have never kinked up during a burn.

Stix had the obvious answer to your problem, if you don't have the tool, find someone who does.

Ahh i noticed that too, it seems that a little while after i received my order. The HoP shop didnt have stainless steel chain in anymore.
The chain i received IS stainless steel tho so i guess i got the end of the reel until they get more.
