You know when you pick you your poi (or any other toy for that matter) and a particular tick u've been working on just isn't happening, do you reckon it's worth pushing on with the mind set it won't beat me, or give up for afew hours/days and hopefully it'll be working better then?

Maybe I should change this too something abit nicer, humm no I still think your all Ccensoredt

Give up for a bit and come back to it - studies have shown that's a better tactic than just ploughing on smile

frustration will only cause you to avoid training on that move later.

Yeah - as the other guys say - taking a break can be good. I remember when I started juggling that picking them up little but often helped me nail things quicker..if you get too frustrated you can give yourself one of those mental/physical blocks whereby you KNOW you CAN do it, but your body refuses to.

If you ad the pain of Poiindeballs, then thats another mental/physical barrier you have to overcome...which slogging on could exascerbate as the balls get more bruised by the balls.

I find that spinning poi can be one of the most frustrating thing in the world. Yesterday my girlfriend couldn't get a move and she got so angry she threw the poi and yelled how she wanted to burn them cause they were so horrible. She was mad for a while. I thought about how sometimes when unable to figure out a move. I would keep trying getting more and more frustrated until finally I would of course whack myself in the balls and curse at the damn things.

There has to be some unwritten law of poi that states the more frustrated you get the higher the chance of the poi colliding with your sensitive areas. ubblol

Yeah I agree with you guys stopping for a while and relaxing before trying whatever move was frustrating you is definatly the best bet.

however dont leave learning the move too long because i always find a day or two too long and i just get frustrated with it again, and the inevitable happens....again lol

leave it a few hours, or try it just before you go to bed or something

Its like a lot of things- I know many sports persons that can end up taking months out of a rigorous playing shedule due to injury or whatever and even then they come bak and feel better than ever- that certainly goes with my understanding of spinning and practice- I went something like 2 months without spinning and when I picked up again I was fresh and open to new ideas, trying new moves. It was then I tried playing with sock poi and the rest is (chutney) history....

sit relax and wait til the passion grabs you again wink

I rekon take a few minute break, but not hours or days, have something to drink, and come back to it when u are feeling more relaxed. don't give up, just keep on trying

There's a couple of good articles here on practising - they're about juggling specifically, but the studies and so on he cites are generic and would apply to poi as well smile

I think the most frustrating thing about poi is seeing really good people.. because they just look like they know exactly where the poi's going with every swing.

I don't, which is why I'm so bruised.

Sorry, how OT of me? But yeah, everyone gets bad days. As long as they don't put you off it's all good. BEcause everyone has them, and that's all they are - a day where poi isn't going to happen.

What a wonderful miracle if only we could look through each other's eyes for an instant.

Try working whatever's giving you problems with one poi for a few minutes, this may help you discover your weak spot that's causing you grief. I'm assuming you're referring to a "new to you pattern" in your op not a pattern you've been doing for weeks that's not working due to a bad day, because if that's the case, then I'll cast my recommendations with the walk away for a few hours camp.
