alright.
what do you spin on the end of your poi?
why?

what i'm trying to ascertain, you see, is the relative differences between, say, a monkey fist and a cathedral and a tube core fire head.

i really like the look of those monkey fists, but dont know enough about any of them to know whats what... apart from those monkey's being heavier...

anyway... whats your deal?

those that know, dont say. those that say, dont know.

Too bad youre into time lapse and not extended exposure... Time lapse has about 0 relevance.

Hehe, just bustin yer balls.

smartass...most people dont know the diff....you get points for that biggrin

it basicaly comes down to how you spin
i spin meteors so the heads are moving rather fast, imo tubecore dont look as good while spinning, the weight just feels strange and i enjoy my 5-10 min burns i get out of my monkies
and ive soaked the tubecore for a good 30 min and the best burn ive EVER gotten out of them was 4 min
as for weight, i had rigged 4 electroglo (2 on each end) as meteors and added weights to them for training by spinning them about 2-4 hours a day
so monkies dont really tire me out...at all anymore..methinks the next prop im going to get is the triple head cathedrals biggrin

I'm tempted to build some monkies now - they sound pretty cool. I reckon I could cope with the weight - I've done triple-headed tube-cores which like fairly impressive. If you're interested, I have a load of photo's showing how I built my wicks.

i cant tie a monky knot so i just buy mine off of malcolm...and i use double wicks that are tubular in shape..but they arent tubecore
dont use them often however..because they burn out too quickly

Just wanted to say im switching from glowsticks to fire so im used to rather light things so i thought about getting tubecore but im not sure how the weights are woking. On the site it says the 2.5 set of tubecores are 350 grams. Im like, hm thats ok, but then i look at monkey fist and its only at 370, while cathedrial is at 450grams. Whats that about?

Also I'm considering between these two sets. They're the same except for different chains, honestly i have no idea whats the difference.

Pair of Cathedral twisted oval link fire poi vs. Pair of Cathedral BALL CHAIN fire poi

https://www.homeofpoi.com/shop/productDet...l_link_fire_poi
and
https://us.f311.mail.yahoo.com/ym/ShowLet...=&box=Inbox

any feedback would be great guys, im not sure what to choose.

Thanks,
Derek

Cathedral firepoi... with wire, no chains (i understand that's a bad thing)... the reason it's because i don't know any better, i only poi for 3 months or so. Still spinning with my first pair... in about a month or so i'll make another set of firepoi... dunno what kind of smile

All my poi (led poi, firepoi, normal poi) are all home made, because they have to be EXACTLY the way I want them to be biggrin and it's cheaper!

I'll have my third fire-swing this night if it doesn't get too cold...

Oh how i love fire! smile

mokey's fists can be spun just as fast as tubes, it just takes practice... i spin to happy harcore and psytrance all the time with monkey fists

also, tubecore degrade faster and...

SUCK THE BIG ONE

my first set was tubecore, but they never got pretty, even flame

Q:What's the difference between the Great Highland Bagpipes and the Northumbrian Pipes?
A:The Great Highland Pipes burn longer.

Link chain needs swivels, ball chain doesnt. Ball chain is better for spinning done whilst holding the chain itself (hand wrapped buzzsaws for instance).

Link chain is often stronger and more durable, however.

two and half inch tube core because they are economic, flow well and don’t catch easily on the body. Monkey fist too big, thirsty, and snag. Ditto cathedrals.

ball chain good, but will try welded links next, cable sux.

I spin home made 4" tube core, towel wicked fire poi. Wicks get unusable usually around the 30th burn or so. Its not a problem for me cos I can just rewick them again to whatever size I fancy.
Also spin with my HoP's triple headed wolf revenge. They're so much fun to do burn off's with ^_^
other than that its SOCKS SOCKS SOCKS

Hey,
I use simple wrapped wicks, they don't look too pretty unlit but they're not too heavy, never used any other type so don't know how well they perform compared to other types but they're prob more reasonably priced/easier to make devil
