welll not actaully knowing tongue id say it would be a lots more work as the extra weight, and you may get a lil more singed, and any tangles would be worse id guess, air wraps (hyper loops) would be made harder/ impossible, but none of this can i substiantiate, as i dont spin poi biggrin

They will obviously be heavier, requiring more strength on your part. Multi-wick poi also tend to use smaller wicks which means a shorter burn time.

The only danger is if you use two or three large wicks together. If you try to spin them fast there is a good chance they will go flying out of your fingers. Happened to me a couple times. redface

I'm building a set of multi-wick poi now using small hybrid wicks. They should be light enough to spin and burn for a longer duration.

i have a pair of double headed monkey fist fire poi
two words can easily describe these

fudging scary

however some moves arfe made easier by having more weight to pull them, i find waist wraps alot easier and hip reels aswell, its resonably hard to do air wraps but hyperloops are quite easy to do as long as you tangle them in a suitable place where it;ll lock in a bit else it can be very dangerous

i gathered theyed be heavier they would need more strenth to use dose haveing the extra wicks make the one handed butterfly harder to do weavesmiley

my 3 headed fire poi are my most favouritist things in the world biggrin The weight isnt a problem for me, i didn't find them much heavier. The singe factor is increased quite a bit, atm i have a nice pokey out bit of hair where the wick closest to the handle scraped across my forhead. Um...they go slower than single headers, which makes moves easier, as you have more control. Transitioning between moves can be a little though.

how large wicks do you have on your 3heads? i have singleheaded 100mm wicks and i think thats good. smaller seems almost too small... but i dunno...

fire is just light and heat.

I got a set of double head poi under the tree this Christmas, and they weigh in at just over 400 grams each and I haven't lit them up yet because I find them so radically different to spin than single poi, I'm going to keep them as a practice set for a while.

I found my planes went all off kilter, especially with longarm stuff and it's going to take me awhile to get used to the feel of being pulled around by my poi.,,,they're a great workout though

i use double heads, gonna get some triple soon. i didnt do wraps with my double heads for a while, but now that i am, my spinning top has got very crispy. i have abit of trouble doin wrist wraps too, the upper most head lies against my skin a touch too long and i normally end up burning myself. wots the solution? just wrap and unwrap faster? make sure i have long sleeves so my top gets burnt not me?

It took a while, but once their numbers dropped from 50 down to 8, the other dwarves started to suspect Hungry.

The only fire poi i have left are split 6" (4" tube core - 2" aluminium tubing - 2" tube core) and now i can't use practice poi properly due to the fair weight difference...

My triples are the ones from HOP, wolf's revenge. Two things about them:

1. The weight takes some getting used to. With no fuel it does not feel like you are holding three wicks, rather like one heavy monkey fist on a chain 75% as long. Practice with it to get used to the weight and the actual vs perceived length. When fueled, they are heavy and take mondo drag.

2. Your first spin with them will be the biggest adrenaline rush you've ever felt (xcept sky diving maybe). The flames are twice as loud as any single poi set. You will feel the heat. For elbow wraps, I highly recommend jeans+sweatshirt, the fire will contact you longer.

Good luck and live triples!

I've got the same wolfs revenge ones from Hop. They took a little getting used to, but now single flames just don't do it for me anymore. The louder noise is the best part biggrin

I like the look of doubles and triples but prefer ropes to spin with when and if I use poi but then I opnly have singles and ropes

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

i think that more than one head is not good for technical moves, like hp or similar, but during a fire show they are great!

I made a set of doubleheads last day, there is a bigger head on the lower part and a smaller head on the chaine. I leave the little head free to move on the chaine, when i spin little head moves up and down on the chaine...Now i have only to try with fire!

a few years on and now i'm a convert to the use of 'intermediate' poi heads that add another 2½ inches of wick in the middle of my ballchain.. yummm
