I love my hoops as much as I love poi and staff and I noticed there was a few other hooping hoppers out there. So I thought HOP needed a hooping thread for us to chat about tricks and share our love for hoops. ubblove
I have been hooping for quite awhile now and have mastered quite a few tricks but I still havn't figured how to flick it up off the ground and move it up my legs. I can get it from my knees up but I saw this chic at the a circus and she had the hoops all on the ground and was bringing them up her legs one by one. It looked awesome.
I've got an idea of what I gotta do but havn't quite got it. I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on this?
Thanks
ubblovemajik

I didn't glue it on because i managed to get it really tight (the slight stretch in the fabric helps). I am thinking of gluing it for extra staying power but me, fur and glue tends to get really messy!

i've put the seam on the inside so its less visible to the observer. I used an overlocker so it made the hem bit nice and small so its not really that lumpy.

It worked far better than i thought it would! it doesn't get all twisted or messed up when i use it and its nice having a little bit of cushioning!

The main thing i can see making it look bad after lots of hooping is that the fluff on the inside will get all flat an less fluffy.

Unfortunately its been raining today so i couldn't hoop with it much frown

Can anyone tell me where i can buy the tubing?

Other than on the net, i dont trust myself with a credit card.

I live in Ireland, so Irish or British shops would be preferred.

I thought maybe Homebase, but when i went and asked no-one knew what i was talking about. I asked for irrigation tubing, and they went "whats it for?" so i carefully resisted the urge to say irrigating, and went all fairy girl on them, but i could find anyone who had a clue, so i went home empty handed, and disappointed.

I was later told that Homebase is a 'girls diy' store, but they couldnt come up with an alternative. Can you?

I would be eternally grateful, and point many good karma points in your direction...

You're probably better off going to a builders merchant like Wickes or Jewsons instead of a DIY store.

Try asking for blue MDPE water supply piping. It comes in 20mm or 25mm diameter, you may have to buy a huge length at once though.

For anyone who is happy to use the net it's available here.

You aren't thinking or really existing unless you're willing to risk even your own sanity in the judgment of your existence.

Small question.... When I hoop with the one made at the Falmouth meet I find it very hard to keep it on my upper body, it slips down unless I'm going the spinning, hoop to flesh as it were. I don't remember Molly's hoop in Ireland being so slippy. Mine is just plain tube with shiny electrical tap on it at the moment. Mollys had a kind of matt fabric tape on it. Do you think that would make enough difference or is it just me not isolating my body parts correctly. I really don't want to have to keep hooping half naked all winter. It'll be a bit chilly for that.

If you think the fabric tape will work where would I get some?

Indeed. Most of Molly's stuff tends to have a matt finish these days. wink

Just for reference our "this hoop sucks it's way to small to hoop" hoop is 3'1" and our "this hoop rocks" hoop is 3'6" also. So a small difference in hoop diameter makes a large difference in hooping. smile

The outside circumferance of actual tubing used on our 3'6" hoop is 11'4"... so that's how much linear tubing we actually used. smile

And you can get plastic connectors which are really easy and fun but cost money. With the plastic connectors, a pot of hot water and a hack saw I turned 100 feet of tubing into 9 hoops in under an hour. (You use the hot water to soften the tubing to add the plastic connectors.)

sorry vix! i am all bruised too! my knees and ankles are not happy with me

NYC i'm guessing you meant the circumference (not the diameter) is 11'4" tongue

I want a collapsible hoop too, walking through the town centre to get to the park with super sized hoops gets me even more unwanted attention and random comments!

Indeed I did.

And Flid, I don't think one's height has much to do with it. Anything in the 3'6" range seems great for the tallest or shortest of hoopers.

Someone showed me some lovely irrigation pipe hoops today, they have joiners in them. Star if you have multiple joiners will that mess with the weighting?
