Posted:This is not a thread about the relationship (or lack of) between The Jollly Fat man and the Bearded Hippy lookalike.

I think I have a moral objection to the continuing misleading of the Children in todays world.

Why do we make our Children believe so heavily in something that doesnt exist? Gravity is another good example of this.

What I object to is the systematic deception of Children, in the vain hope that they believe that if they dont behave in the year, they will get Cole instead of presents.

I also object to the fact that when children lie to parents, they will get told off, yet when the parents lie to the children, it is seen as acceptable.

Would Children just simply not be able to comprehend the fact that Christmas is based on a dying religion, and its just the fact that people enjoy getting cool stuff for free, that we give out presents nowerdays?

umm

Why can Children not see that the entire concept of one man visiting every single child in the world in one night, pulled by flying reindeer is totally impossible and highly implausable.

and what angers me more than anything to do with the Jolly Fat one is that when you announce to the line of Chilrden and parents excitedly watiing outside Santas Grotto in your local shopping centre to see a man dressed up, that Santa does not exist, and prove to them all with scientific proof that he never could.....why then do the parents attack me and the Children burst into tears?

THEY CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

Im am most definatly full of the Christmas cheer, its just the whole lying to children, then telling them off for lying that insinuates me.

But the kids enjoy it and while I agree with your points, political correctness can get a bit crazy.

You're right that commercialism is something appaling that has sucked the goodness out of Christmas, but that doesn't mean it doesn't appeal to some people and they should be allowed to enjoy it, if they wish.

You have children?

eek Do they know this?

And there was me and many, many others thinking you were a bored 14 year old. wink

And I agree with everything you said,

I just dont see why we have to repeatedly lie to children about something that is not essential. Christmas morning is always a magic one...

But how does Santa actually make any of it happen seeing as he doenst actually exist?

How can something that doesnt exist, physically have any effect on this?

its not so much "santa" but the idea, and the spirit that creates the afore mentioned magic........remember (acording to christianity) there was a St. Nick at one point.......

as for the sencond question, compare it to religion, no one knows for sure what happens after death, but when we pray, meditate, or what have you, we FEEL better.......

If i could still have the magic i would and i dont think it damaged me or my morals in any way when i found out the truth.

Kids that believe in santa also believe that all the other kids in the world are sharing in the same thing. Thats nice I think

besides back in biblical times, there was a Saint for just about EVERYTHING...........

Ado-p well said.........

UCOF, understandable that you dont believe in santa, as you have to be at least 16 years old wink, but why such animosity towards it? children now a days have so many negative immages thrown at them from the media, games, school.....why not just let them believe that at least once a year, something special happens..............I stoped believing in santa, but i NEVER stopped believing in the spirit, and thats what I hope my daughter holds on to as well

as I get older (physicaly not mentaly) the world just seems to get worse. all holidays have become so comercial, that shoping is now the reason for the season, and THATS what I hate about it, but that look on my daughters face x-mas morning, nothing in this universe can compare, and for that one moment, everything is right in the world............thats what the "myth" of Santa is for, that one moment of true, absolute joy.......

I saw a thing on this once, how even if he were to exist, he'd have to travel at a speed that would cause all of the reindeer to catch on fire due to atmospheric friction, and that the average wieght and/or size of presents would cause the sleigh to be approximately the size of texas.

santa can do anything he wants.. if his reindeer catch fire, hell just extinguish it.. he can compress texas into his magic bag of goodies!

the thing that i find mindboggling is how does he know whos been good and bad.. does he really have a list of millions of children?

there was a programme on the other night about st. nick. he threw bags of money through people's windows - random acts of kindness - apparently, so that's where the whole thing came from. but they reconstructed him and he don't look very fat or jolly... he was also turkish.... must have moved to lapland to avoid the crowds and got a bit chilly....
