hoops? what size and kind of hoops are you talkin about?

ok do you mean doing poi while hula hoop-ing? or useing the hoops AS poi? sorry i confuse easily

You can't avoid pain by fencing yourself from it.
Some times you need the help of others more than anything else
But you have to let them close enough to help......
People want to be needed, I found that out too

well that'd make poing a bit hard if you're gonna be using them as poi redface

If you want to cheat at it, put the hoops on a really short bit of string/chain and use them like normal poi. This makes it really, really easy smile

In a show I did a while back we stole an idea from the No Fit State Circus and did this under UV with UV active paint on the hoops - you get an awesome spirograph effect, it looks very cool.

On the moves front, butterfly stuff is really hard and doesn't really seem worthwhile. Isolations would be ace but you'd need long arms. Weaves, windmills, fountains, and giant circles seem to be the best choices.

"Take that, math!"

Yeah there's loads of cool moves with hoops that I've seen but couldn't possibly repeat with detail. I'm sure that vid helps you out tho, there's lots of it about if you look hard enough smile

Let's relight this forum ubblove

I actually think that two hoops is more "double staff" than "poi"... but that's just me.

And I'm no hoop expert.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

I've seen people do two hoops like poi... gorgeous, but takes work. and yeah, the moves you can do may indeed be limited to moves that also share a lot with double staff...

there was a Canadian contact juggler at Spitz that played with this stuff [just looked at the Full Moon site and this may be Ryan from Full Moon?!?]... and I've seen at least one person do some of this here in San Francisco.

Poilahoop is spinning poi (not the hoop) while spinning a hoop around your waist ("normal" or "on the body" hooping). Glittergirl does this, as does a number of other people -- a lot of people trying this in California, though I think GG has developed it more than others I've seen.

You can also grab the hoop and spin it "off the body" by holding it in your hands or spinning it on your hands/wrists/arms. That's what I was referring to in the previous post. Not sure which one you're interested in.

Yeah, I've seen what you're talking about. It LOOKS like poi... but I feel with the rigid handle, it'd be way more like double staff. As I said.

Well, shall we go?

Nice vid. biggrin See, poi-styleisolations with 2 hoops would look really quite awesome.

Yeah, concerning the grips, if you just hold the hoops it is quite double staff-ish, although you have the added flexibility that you can let go of the hoop and roll it around your arm. I think this is the trick that the girl from the no fit state was using for her weaves, but she may have just been incredibly flexible.

I definitely agree, it's not really poi, unless you you use Puresock's idea.

I love using hula hoops instead of staffs, as it feels almost the same, and you can do deliberate drops where they come scooting back to you afterwards!
