Curiosity killed the cat.

How exactly? When? I just started thinking about this in the shower, does anyone know about this cat? And I'm sure this isn't the only little saying that people use that doesn't make much sence when you think about it. Anyone know any others? Or better yet can anyone explain any others?

i cant explain one, but i have one for you

There's more than one way to skin a cat

so apparently this "cat" really pissed someone off to the point that they claim its death, and found more than one way to skin it

In my experience there's always enough room to swing a cat.

Most of the time though, after swinging one in a small space, you have an unprotesting subject for seeing just how many ways of skinning a cat you know.

tongue

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

But this is still my favorite:

Actually I know the swing a cat one. It meant "cat o'nine tails" a really nasty whip thing. It had something to do with slaves and the fact that the rooms (or whatever) they were in were so small there wasn't room for the slavers to swing the whip.

There's an interesting anti-cat theme delevoping in these sayings...

Cats apparently, will not enter a space that is narrower than their whiskers... so i reckon that there was an exception to this rule, a cat too curious for it's own good, it crawled into a wall space after say... a mouse... or more likely the cheese on a mouse trap.... got stuck and died and that's how curiosity killed the cat.

i have no proof of this, i just made up that explanation (except for the first part, that is true.)

My host dad cut his cat's whiskers off when he was 5 years old and didn't know any better.... Apparently the poor thing was walking into walls for two days, and then went back to normal. And they looked at ME in disbelief when I said that my cat (dont have him anymore though) was de-clawed! Apparently there's something to do with animal rights and that. Anywho...

Raining cats and dogs.

Definately an anti cat theme in these sayings I'd never notice before...

two heads are better than one.... BUT... too many cooks spoil the broth..... so where's the happy medium? or does it not matter because one lot are just cooking and the others are just thinking?

on the subject of cats> i really want to try that thing that jimmy carr suggested on the Channel 4 advert - putting smartites tubes on their legs and making them walk like robots... i was wondering if anyone has had any success (by which, i mean not got their eyes scrammed out) in doing so....
i don't think i need to cut my cats whiskers off they walk into things anyway confused
