THERE you go! Saritan's site. At least the two flash animations he's got online. They're based ont he actual music videos, and it's a good example of the art form.

(Deleted second site, it's not what I'd call "Family safe")

Posted:Ok, a bit of a geeky update from my Japanese loving / studying friend (fiend?)

The style of animation is called "Satiama". From Taren :

"Saitama" is a kind of inside/running joke in Japan. It's the name of a prefecture, yes, but I think some of the stoners on 2ch started it. Saitama, Monar/Mona, and stuff like that are names for made-up text art things.

So it's like an ASCII based drawing style, taken a a new level. He also ID'd the song from a videogame, "Beatmania". So a DDR kinda thing.

And don't ask anout the kangi. I don't get it either.

The running joke about this is....

The Cat characters that you see in this animation are an evolution of the Purelly ASCII based drawings that the animators of this film are famous for.

PRevious works by these guys include pictures and even full on animation using only characters readily available on a standard keyboard and character map, as well as added bastardised fonts.

Now about the animation itself. if you are familiar with these guys work. you will know that this in fact makes no sense at all, and strangely enough, isnt supposed to make sense. I read japaneseto a certain extent and the characters they throw at you make little or no sense whatsoever.

This seems to be a popular trend in Flash nowdays. if you are familiar with the work of "Disaster Labs" and "Home Star Runner"
There are many fantastically talented film makers out there who use flash as their medium who need to be given jobs right away. what i love about a lot of flash nowadays is that they use a lot of Random monty pythonesque humour, where nothing makes sense and is totally random, very funny stuff if you ask me.

Good flash sites to check out.
