Okay people, I know you're out there!!!

So, what is it about Donnie Darko? I know a lot people who have seen this movie, and everyone loves it to tears.(except for Flid, who I didn't know had seen it and in fact fell asleep during it.) I do too! It's just a really really good movie, although I have NO idea why. Everytime I watch it I genereally get really confused about time and all that.

So, why is it such a popular movie? And Frank's bunny mask can't be a valid reason! We all know it's cool biggrin tongue

Good movie, seen it about 3 times and still have no clue what the crap is going on...the website didn't help much either. My friend is quite afraid of bunnies since I made her watch it.

Bunnies aren't just cute you know, like everyone supposes.
They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses.
And what's with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies! Bunnies! It must be bunnies!!!!

...or maybe midgets.

Trillian you should get a biggzor poster of frank's mask and put it up in your friend's room when she's sleeping... or better yet... a bunch of them and just cover the walls with them. Definitely.

I fell asleep thought it when my boyfriend and host sis were watching it in german (it was a bit hard to understand all of it in English), and woke up when I heard 'cellar door'. Was really confused becaue I don't know if it was english or german... But pretty sure it was English.

And yes-

Why do they call you Frank?

FRANK
It is the name of my father... and his
father before me.

Oh yay! Are we gonna turn this into a book club discussion? I hadn't really thought much about the depth of the movie as anything more than a stylistic mindf#ck with a plot that sort of made sense in some ways.

that's why his name is frank.
doesn't tell ya *who* he is...

but no, i'm not up for 'distributed donnie darko discussion evenings'.
imho, dd is good but is a bit like lynch for teenagers i.e. it seems to me that there is no good way of deciphering the deepest meanings through repetitive views.

i can't be bothered to go through the website to understand it, nor visit the discussion forums to test my theories (since they all end up with a gaping hole somewhere due to the time-travel conundrum) so for me it will always remain as a good film with a great story based on an extremely well-constructed paradox (if that is not indeed what it is supposed to be).

personally i like 'mulholland drive' and 'lost highway' *far* better, even if they do have much sadder endings.

so what's with donnie seeing frank all the time and him saving donnie at the start and telling him how long before he dies and telling him to burn things and having his eye stabbed out before he gets shot in it and stuff?

ubblol ubblol ubblolThat would be so much fun! She would definately kill me. Although, since she is in love with Jake Gylenhall(sp?), I could also put up posters of Donnie to make her feel better!

for additional effect you can always set up speakers in the room with a microphone leading to the outside and making sure the door can't open unless from the outside, just sit outside her room immitating frank's voice through the mic..... april fools is comin up... do it then biggrin
