Extended exposure set at 2 - 4 seconds,
Experiment with flash, in some settings no flash is best, others flash is needed.
Use a tripod.
Keep in mind that youre taking extended exposure shots when spinning. Keep body movement to a minimum so you arent all blurry in the pic.
Buy lots of film/memory and use it!

the easiest way is to put it on night vision if you have it. That is normaly 2 seconds.

hey guys, just a quick question i'll tack onto this thread as not to start another.

I have a canon A75 powershot camera, which takes great pictures at night. The only problem being during the day if i use a longer shuter speed the picture turns out white. my guess would be it is just seeing all the light.
Anyway to stop this?? anyone got the same camera??

Thanks guys!

dfz - can you turn down the ISO level, this comes in levels of 100 200 400 800 1600 and so on dependent on the cam

there is no realy way to stop light hitting the lens as that what you are doing with an extended exposure,

best bit of advice for anyone looking to get good at taking pics is to go to a fire or a meet of some kind, and take around 200 pic every time, just fill your card, take lots of pics, and then lots more...and your skills will jump just as if you practice lots with your poi!

You might have some luck with daytime extended exposure if you shoot against a really dark background. Might still not turn out too well though. Other than that, I dont think theres anything you can do about it except dont take EE shots during the day.

Yeah, daytime EE shots never come out that well even if you do get the light balance right. It just doesn't stand out enough against the background, unless it's a very dark background and then you might as well take it at night.

Plus all the light hitting your body means you'll be a big blur in the middle of your trails (or just a pair of legs), which isn't ideal.

What a wonderful miracle if only we could look through each other's eyes for an instant.

a photography program on tele suggested stretching some tights or stockings over the lens to lessen the light that gets through worth a try as its relitly inexpensive could give some interresting relsults too

During the day, if you have a long shutter speed you need to compensate with a small aperture. For two seconds, you'd definitely need the smallest possible, but even then there'd probably be too much light.

Also, mech mentioned ISO levels... buying a film with an ISO of 100 might help if you're currently using a higher number, as that's the least sensitive. That's no help if it's a digital camera, though.

And remember, for exposures of more than a 30th of a second, you're gonna need a tripod!

not necessarily, most of my best pics are i suppose you could call it posed but i prefer to think of them as thought out. That just means i put the camera down and use the timer countdown. It means you can time when you do the move perfectly then just carry on spinning for the fun of it straight afterwards.
