Posted:Well I was refering to his slight pot belly, (or pregnancy to some - twins 'pparently) and I enjoy teasing him about it in the most mean spirited way. Cos he is a big strong guy and it doesn't really matter if he has a slight belly, cos he has phylis to make up for it. wink

And every time I do it, I remember my pot belly, then I go away and exersize. biggrin

But Dom *is* tall! I wasn't teasing him. Tall people get more respect naturally, cos people look up to them. Which is why it's harder to tease them. frown

I love un-pc things. Mostly things like:

" My friend hadn't had a girlfriend for a while, then the next time I saw him, he was fighting off two. They're like buses, I said. Why? He replied, Because for wait for ages for one, then two come along at once? No, I said, They're like *buses*.
" Later after the show a large girl came up to me and told me I was 'Fattist'. No I said, You're Fattist."

errr....

offtopic

and vaguely offensive! redface

Posted:I totally understand what you're saying Cole. I was just wondering if it's cultural because in my posse it would be construed as rude.

I'm not judging it, it's obviously cool with everyone involved.

Maybe there are more issues with self image over here. Maybe there are more issues with political correctness over here.

I keep running through all my friend ane even aquaintance lists and situations and I can't think of any that would play out with the same level of teasing about having a 'baby' as a belly. And obviously some very sweet an loveable souls in Edin parttake in that. So I was wondering if it was cultural... is all.

Posted:... For example (you can tell I've been thinking about this...) I know that in my friend groups things like "Political Beliefs" are TOTALLY things you can give a person crap about. And in other places, I know that'd be considered rude and personal.

My little brother is much more conservative than I am and we CONSTANTLY give each other crap about it. But we'd never even mention a physical difference (like the fact that I'm much shorter or something.)

i think it is not only a cultural but specifically a very local (as in 'tied in to the extended group of people involved').

compare for example the lack of heckling during someone spinning fire in london to the amount you get in ed - i think thats the performer 'push each other to go one better' mentality.

its not my cup of tea but if it makes good performers better, then go ahead with yourselves i say smile

nyc, you call me a geek all the time - having been to one of the geekiest universities in the uk (glass went there so it must be wink) and talking siteswap to people who don't care about it on a regular basis means those jibes are firmly grounded on a fact - i'm geeky.

but i don't take it as a serious attack on a large part of who i am but more as an embracement of that factor of my personality by the people i like - making fun of it makes me feel that people see my geekyness as a positive aspect of my character.

i feel rob has a strong enough personality for his friends to call him 'pregnant' (so i'll probably start doing it too now!) whereas i'm too timid to complain about the geek jibes so i put up with them ( wink ), and besides all this is much ado about nothing unless rob posts one of these: ubbcrying

hope everyone has a great weekend (and rob, go chase that postie down - he has a little something for you...).

Posted:See... now that means I actually DON'T think you're a geek. If I really did, I wouldn't say it.

Geeks don't go to raves and sleep with hot chicks and have delightful personal skills.

And.. I even think of 'geek' as a compliment since it implies intelligence.

If I thought you had a problem with social skills, or balance in your life, or other negative areas associated with geekyness, I'd never call you a geek.

Posted:I only tease people about things that they can do something about, or unimportant, so physical appearance, but not facial appearance. Or ways people speak, but not political beliefs. (Usually I feel these are based too deeply in somebody's personality to change, you might as well try changing a optimist to a pessimist).

Rob's belly comes under both of these categories to me.

Though if he was pregant, then it would be important. wink

I didn't respond becuase I felt badly about derailing this thread. And I didn't want to embarras Coleman's mom.

Though I have learned that if I want to kill a converation, all I need to do is start it on my intro thread. Apparently it's HoP Kryptonite. biggrin

It is with great regret that I have to announce that the Scottish

This was due to unforeseen circumstances at the last minute.

We are all very disappointed.

Posted:Hello m'lovelies,

I have a Virgin mobile phone and today I received one of their helping-to-nail-the-rainforest mailouts in the form of a so-called 'yearbook' (actually, a book with lots of pictures and event listings and a little space at the bottom of each page to act as a diary)...

Anyhows, imagine my surprise when I turned to the page starting Monday April 4 and there was a picture of some fire.

Yes indeedy. A rather rotund man concentrating very hard (no doubt in fear for his kilt and woolly jumper), spinning what may or may not be a fire staff.

And the caption:
British Juggling Convention
Perth, Scotland
March 31-April 3
Jugglers, Unicyclists, Enthusiasts and general weirdie-beardies come together for a weekend of juggling and circus skills. A regular feature of the event is the juggler's olympics, where contestants compete in various juggling contests.

Now, my concern is not the blantant commercialisation-in-a-bid-to-be-cool displayed by Virgin (cos that is no surprise)... but I would like to know... what the hell is a weirdie-beardie?! And do you have to be one to attend the BJC?!

Cos I don't have a beard, and certainly not a weird one.
Will interestingly shaped hair do?

Please someone explain this phenomenon

ubblol

I should defo be up for the Scottish convention, am looking forward to seeing the building all right...

I hope the renegade is god at the Scottish, purely after the Saturday's renegade last year it made me think twice about going to renegade and getting legless...maybe a more sober aproach is needed.

Unlikely I'll be heading up for BJC. frown

If I head up to the scottish early, can i stay with anyone for a night or two?
