Yo Y'all.

Edit: now with Dates for the 6 week - monday evening course, watch this space for details on the weekender

I thought that it would be a really good thing to run a course on Ball Contact.

So I wrote one, and if I don't say so myself, its the shizzle nizzle. cool

If is successful, I'll think about doing more - stick contact and poi. biggrin

WHO FOR:

Its aimed at complete beginners up to people who have been playing for 1 year.

Small group size - 8 people.

WHAT WILL YOU GET OUT OF IT:

In the 6 evening course I reckon you will learn as much as you would get from 6 months to a year of practicing it on you own AND because of the good grounding in technique, over the next 6 months you will progress at about 2X the pace you would have done without. and you will have enough material to keep you busy for at least 3 years of practice.

It will be really F**king good, I promise.

And lots of not taking things too seriously.

WHAT WILL BE IN IT:

Its going to be covering the fundamentals of this Lot:

-Isolations

-technique more technique

-Lots of 1 ball

-Rolling Arm rolls and rolling ubbrollsmile

-Palm spinning

-Snakes - normal, 3D, digital and helical snakes

-Balancing and stalls and holds

-Pyramids manipulations and some basic formations

-More Isolations

-Mixing with throw juggling

-How to be smooth

-Meditation

-Multi-person contact

-Musicality, flow, presenting and making it look good and dancing for those who want them.

-Even More different Isolations and more good technique.

-Every night there will be a 30 minute screening of video clips showing some if the most inspirational, Contact, manipulation, juggling, craziness and dance.

-Essentials on warming up and warming down and avoiding long term injury.

-And I've got a bit of time for requests from everyone on moves that they would like to cover.

WHERE:

I want to try to keep the cost down for beginners course so I will run in mine and Doms front room in Brixton, South London. Its big and has a padded floor.

WHEN:

6 Monday nights: Starting Monday 10 January to Monday 14/21 February (probably skip valentines day TBC)

Time: 7:15pm to 10:30pm

and yes I will run the weekend course soon, but I decided to run this one first, because its cool. and because coleman and Steve kept asking nicely smile

COST:

For 6 Monday nights: 40 quid

BALLS:

You need to bring at least 1 ball, does not need to be acrylic. But it is better if you have at least 2 or 3 of your own acrylics for last 4 weeks.

I've only got enough CJ balls for 5 people to practice 4. So there have to be a few places for folk who have their own balls.

ME:

I've been doing contact for 9 years and teaching poi, staff contact and ball contact it for at least 7, I do workshops every year at the British, European, London, Bristol conventions and last years British contact juggling convention.

I CJ usually with 1 to 10 acrylics or 1 stage ball and last time I went busking CJ I came back with a Girlfriend. That was a surprise.

Anything else:

There will be biscuits AND Tea. smile

This is a really good opportunity to learn CJ

Please PM me and reply below if you’re interested, even if you can’t make the dates above, first come/sillyest message gets the places first.

Right you lot.

For those of you who have never met this man..

[EgoFootpump]

His is one of theVERY few people I would call a Demi god. He spinning abilites are seond to none (except of course mine), I went to a contact workshop at the London juggling convention where he taught people how to properly do contact ball palm isolations (amongst other stuff) in a completly new and different light.

I had previously spent hours upon hours upon hours of practice making the ball go round and round all over the shop. After 10 mintues with the above named man....I could definatly see an improvement.

Drew is a great teacher too. He talks to every pupil on their own level in an always friendly and helpful manner.

If there is tea and biscutis, it would surely be one of the greatest times of your life.

£40 is a bargain anyway you look at it. I would pay him £40 just to let me wash his pants.

[/EgoFootpump]

Drew....I really wish I could go to this...but alas... Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat.

kiss

I suggest, if you are in two minds.

a) Phone me.

b) Go to this workshop.

c) Play yourself at battleships.

I ubblove you Glass

absolutely! I'd be interested if done as a long weekend type thing in jan. Sadely I live and work in Coventry now so weeknights arn't really doable. I can stay over in London any weekend thou if you were to do an all day sat/all day sunday thingyme smile. Or even 2 weekends on the trot, not sure i could cope with 24 hours of CJ in one weekend eek

Glad to see you spreading the love Glass.

Just don't spread it all and get bitter so when I'm out there and ask a question you slap me. wink

Oh... and I lit version two of the fireplates last night. Went perfectly. And thought "Ha, Drew! Now there's something a 4 year old can't do!"

I could easily handle huge amounts of contact juggling.

My wrists would be a different story.

I think there should be some kind of wrist warm up program...

I know I'm not a beginner and have been CJ'ing for about 2 years now, but it'd be cool to have some back-to-basics lessons...

The long weekend sounds awesome!! I can quite happily sit and manipulate a ball for the entirety of a weekend!!

I've been CJing for a total of 8/9 weeks, and would love to learn more techniques/theories/moves!!

Just a suggestion, but for those less hardcore doing the long weekend (if it does take place), maybe it would be a good idea to break up the CJ sessions with smaller sessions of poi etc? I would pay more!! And I always find when practising that if I get stuck, I move on to something else, come back, and it's pretty much nailed!! or at least the idea is a lot clearer in my head...

Your obsession with that photo is what troubles me. I'm fine with it. Actually... it's your obsession with the pink ears that troubles me. I think you secretly wanted to wear them all EJC but projected your fetish on others. wink

And I've got a higher opinion of both you and SwingDemon to actually think that she was seduced by your contact juggling. wink

Well, shall we go?

Back on topic for a moment, I'd certainly be up for a long weekend CJ course.

It's possible that I'd be able to make a 6x monday night one, but it'd be a right pain in the arse to get to every week.

Now that's done, time to get back off topic, break out the photos of the fluffy ears smile

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Ditto! I'd be up for a long weekend CJ course too - not this time round but as no doubt the session will be a fantastic success you'll decide to have another one soon!
