*yawn* Playing with fire is so...boring.

I mean, everyone here does it...right? So we can't very well talk about it.

But, see, Nutella, Vegemite, and Marmite are where we differ. Variety is the spice of life!

Master sodium, I would like to point out that if you have a look around the message board you will see there are lots of discussions on some quite serious topics. However, the Nutella vs Marmite arguement it a little light relief in a serious and sometimes very frightening world. Whats so wrong with that?

I guess my answer to this is...Why do any of us spend time on this site when we should be out there spinning fire (or poi, or glowsticks).

Sitting in front of a computer looking at charcters on a screen does sound like a major waste of time when fire spinning is one of your hobbies.

And why is the Social Section so much bigger than the technical and moves sections?

Because this is a social gathering place where infomration about fire-arts can also be sought.

People will socialise, it's in our nature, and that's what the nutella marmite phenomenum is, socialising.

If you don't wish to part, that's up to you, but, remember, you took precious time out of your practice time to read this BB and make up a whole new thread on something that you think is trivial...think about that for a while

Anyway, my apologies if any of that came through as mean, I am simply venting back at one who is venting on humans acting as humans.

Cheers all, and play safe!

I do realize that there is some serious discussions on this board. but they all end up mentioning nutella or marmite or crepes or something.

and I have nothing against sitting on a BB, rather then spinning fire, I'm obviously doing it. I just wonder why nutella and vegimite. but I guess since I think they taste like ass, I just wouldn't understand.

maybe if someone would represent jelly once in a while. . .

Master Sodium... sounds like you need a little bit of nutella in your diet to sweeten you up a little bit...get it inta ya! Nutella is good, marmite is good and we like to talk about stuff which is good, hence the good natured banter about the two...maybe someone will start talking about your jelly and who knows maybe now you'll feel like your comfertable because you have made the effort to include your self... BTW never swear against the chocolately goodness that is nutella by deeming it a substance that "sucks"
Cassandra will hunt you down and force feed it to you until you take it all back...lol
And maybe you could clarify how you know what ass tastes like?

Marmite and veggiemite are so disgusting! I don't know how anyone could possibly get into that stuff.

Very strange that entire civilizations seem dependant on the stuff, to the point where they'll pay extraneous amounts at Sainsbury or Tescos for it.

Thank god I'm in a country now where nobody will force me to eat either of those, things.

Down with the "mite" family!!!

Yes, but look at what happens to those civilizations. They wind up driving on the wrong side of the road.

i feel that the re-occurance of vegimite and marmite and that yummy yummy nutella is o.k
it seems that it has been diplayed in the social discussion part of the board and therefore IS warranted as it is a social topic... its like peanuts: neither peas nor nuts... discuss!

by the way im at home now and i currently have a peice of toast with marmite on it..
i coversed with my mom once again on the purpose of owning this substance and she told me that it was for making glueten which is a sort of meatless meat patty made out of oats and appearently Marmite.

so now i will eat this toast and marmite and give my humble opinion as to weather im crazy too..
the smell is slightly uhmm.. aqquired? not sure but whatever here goes..
*munch munch munch*

oooh i dont like that...
blarg..

and the conclusion is.. marmite is not for me.. (unless its in gluten)

ill stick to nuetella.. and crepes i like crepes.
i just made my sister eat it and i think she doesnt like it. as she just downed a whole cup of week old coffee.... ew

Okay, i'm going to pack it on the way to Burning Man ... and we shall go into the desert, and siteth upon our butts on the dry dusty lakebed we shall consume the yummy spread of cream cheese and strawberry jelly and lo, we will know it's creamy strawberry-y goodness and when the sun seteth on that barren land we shall rise up and spin fire with the energy gained from the spread.

okay, i admit it... i was watching a Charles Heston (sp?) bible movie tonight and i guess it's spilling over

oops, wrong movie!

Ok, quick playa tips for any BRC virgins.

GOOD:
Nutella, Jams and Jellies, P-nut butter (and other nut butters...and try to get a low-sodium type if you can...you'll understand why once you get there), margarine spreads (the kind that comes in squeeze bottles), salsa, mustard, ketchup, and other non-perishable condiments. Soymilk works well as long as you drink it pretty soon after opening it.

BAD:
Cream cheese, yogurt, dairy milk, sour cream (unless you like it really sour ), cottage cheese, butter, or any other dairy product, mayonnaise, and anything else that you can see getting nasty after sitting at 110°F (43°C) for a few days.

Have an ice chest with you? That buys you one day, tops. Now, if you have a generator and a fridge, that's different, of course.

ok, mike. apparantly you didn't know the cooler trick. keeps perishable foods fresh all week long.

heres what you do:

fill the bottom 1/8-1/4 of your cooler with dry ice. cover the next 1/4 of it with regular ice.

the regular ice keeps your food from getting too incredibly cold, but the dry ice keeps it from melting and/or going bad.

so I'm gonna enjoy my damn cream cheese with nyx, all week long, and thats that.

Didn't know that cooler trick. One other thing. If you have acid with you, seal it tightly in an airtight/waterproof container (not a friggin zip-lok bag, I mean a peanut butter jar) and put in one of those silica things that absorbs water in the air. If you can't find one of those, then throw in a pinch of rice. Let it sit at room temperature for a few hours. Then put it in the fridge. If you can find one of those oxygen-absorbing things that they sometimes include in certain foods (I can't think of what they package with them right off the bat), that's great, too.

But acid turns to nothing at all when left unrefrigerated on the Playa. I had to take four hits on the night of the Burn, 2000 to get any effect at all. Mind you, before BM, this same acid was so powerful that one hit would send you into Mars orbit.

I'm told that Jam is good for what ails you.

Personally I'm sick of everyone asking in every single thread about marmite and nutella preferences but - and this is a big but - there are several reasons why i don't complain:it's better than everyone calling POINT.
If you don't remember points then you're lucky. It led to the bitchiest phase of HOP i've yet seen. So much back biting and sniping. It was hoddible. If we talked about fire all the time we would get bored and we wouldn't visit so much.
It's scary but true. I'm here all the time and i've seen the lulls. They always occur when the chat becomes stagnant. It's better than talking about war or america or any other nasty topic we came online to escape fromIt gives us a common link to others.
Whether we hate it or love it we will find kinfolk. Thusly we will find friends we didn't find before. this can only be good. Before you seek to diss you should try looking at the broader picture. Only when you look at the whole scene can you see the individual players. Truly then do you know the whole tale.

Thus spaketh Cantus.

.
Now go my family and argue about various breadable spreads....

I think you're all mad. Who wouldn't? But it's true that a crazy topic that anyone could put their opinion in on makes the world.. and the message board.. a more interesting place.
So here's my imput:
Why has no one mentioned butter? It's the most basic thing to put on a piece of toast, yet I don't think I've seen it discussed on here. It's a spread too..

Marmite, vegemite.. I've never tried either, but judging by the name alone, I'm not missing much. The sound of the words are off putting. What is interesting though is that apple-butter stuff. I had never tried it til I arrived in America. I'm not really sure what to make of it.
