Well, last night, I had the great pleasure of meeting Spitfire, Spritie, and Mand. Thanks so much to all three of you luuuuurvely ladies for showing a poor Midwestern boy a fun night on the town.
(Photos of the group spin are forthcoming). As far as the night went, first, we went to sushi (Mand was a sushi virgin) and then the girls took me to a local gay bar so that Spritie and I could ogle the boys and so that Mand and Spitfire could be amused. The interview at Baylor went well. I've added up the plusses and minuses of the program:
PLUS
Major powerhouse pediatrics program. Ranked #3 nationally.
Amazing facility.
Amazing amount of subspecialties and referral patients.
Great city.
Many Spanish-Speaking patients.
Amazing adolescent medicine training
MINUS
Residents seemed haggard, run-down and greatly overworked.
Computer systems outdated and not well-integrated for orders or patient records.
Hospital director seemed a bit...slick.
Very high-volume hospital with high patient-to-resident ratio. On-call resident responsible for 36 inpatients.
Very little autonomy for residents.
All in all, I'm afraid I won't be ranking that program very highly because it looks like the residents suffer there.

I'm sorry the residents at Baylor seem way overworked. I wouldn't want to be working in that type of environment either. But, it would have been cool to have you in Houston. Mand's Girl....and The Not So Shy One

Incidentally, at this point I feel it very necessary to point out that:
1) Mand and SpitFire make a very cute couple.
2) Spritie has a very nice butt.
3) If not for HOP, I wouldn't have met any of these amazing people. Thanks for what you do, Malcolm!
