I play around w making music, but I'm usually working w other projects so I'm too busy. I've just received like 3 gigs of sample banks, so I should put them to use somehow wink For my old fire troupe I usually mixed down music on my decks or in Cool Edit Pro if I wanted one continuous mix.

Fruity Loops studio is pretty sweet, I just started really playing around with all of the effects/plugins you can apply to each channel(s). I like the playlist editor, but the sequencer is still a bit mechanical. Tho I think if I ever want to make serious music in that program, I'd have to get a real midi keyboard for input, the drum roll piece of fl is still lacking. ACID Pro is better, but the learning curve is a little bit steeper for it, as well as the price tag I think.

Yup, I make music.

I mostly use emagic's Logic, with a bit of Fruity Loops, Kontakt, soundforge and occasionally more esoteric stuff thrown in. There's some for download here and here if you're interested.

to me electronic (computer) "music" doesn't sound like music.
but yeah, I make music, play in a band, but also loop parts from songs together to make a fire tune for myself to perform to too.

If you don't like "computer music", if its not "music", how do you make your loops?

I loop parts of good songs (from the 60s or 70s) to make it more monotomous and longer than 2,5 minutes.
you'll be amazed how good that works...

I'm a singer/songwritery type, play guitar mainly and I record a lot of stuff (when I can bothered to dig out all the myriad equipment for my stinking laptop).. I use a really cheap studio program which does everything I want it to (it cost about £5 but has unlimited tracks, lots of effects and virtually everything you need for a decent production capability).

I also put synth drums behind a lot of stuff, I use an AMAZING free program called "Tu2" which you used to be able to get from download.com, don't know if you still can though. It lets you make samples from any onehit drum samples then sequence them... a bit of time spent learning it really pays off.

And my music is generally pretty good to spin to, so I'm told wink tongue

digidesign recently released a free version of "pro tools".

it is a limited version of course, but perfect for what you want to do with it.

you basically get 8 tracks (and 48 midi), using the audio in of your computer, so you can never record more than 2 channels at once. but you can cut, paste and loop and you get compressors, gates and EQs, and I believe some plug ins too (correct me if I'm wrong).

I just recently heard of this myself, so I didn't get a chance to test it yet.

but it's completely legal, no cracks required, and downloadable from their own website at: https://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/

have fun!
